Only Toyosi Olusanya scored more for St Mirren than Mikael Mandron last season

St Mirren got their Premier Sports Cup campaign back on track with a hard-fought win over Forfar Athletic at Station Park.

Stephen Robinson said he was "in shock" after the 0-0 draw with Arbroath at the weekend, with the Buddies going on to lose the penalty shoot-out.

They got out the blocks quickly in the north east though, when new full-back Jayden Richardson struck home a thunderous finish from inside the box after a good run up the right flank.

Kylian Phillips went close to making it two, but their advantage remained slender at the break.

Mikael Mandron was brought on at half-time and it was another substitute that set him up for what proved to be the winner, as James Scott rolled it into the Frenchman's path to power home from close range.

Forfar made it interesting though, scoring just a few minutes later through Kieran Inglis who fired in from distance, but they could not find another route to goal.

Robinson's side now sit top of Group D with four points, although Ayr United and Arbroath have a game in hand.
