PT Suffolk: Hi Phil. Letter of the law red card was correct. However you can understand Arsenal’s frustration when Doku in this match and Joao Pedro for Brighton went unpunished. Also how can it be acceptable for Haaland to throw the ball against the back of Gabriel’s head?
Phil: Hello PT. First of all, it was not acceptable for Haaland to throw the ball against the back of Gabriel’s head. It also came at a moment when emotions were running incredibly high. Out of order.
As for Trossard’s second yellow, he can have no complaints but I do take the point about inconsistencies in decision making. Joao Pedro got away with it in the same game against Brighton when Declan Rice was sent off, although yesterday Doku’s defence will be that he kicked the ball into an area where referee Michael Oliver was pointing where he wanted a free-kick to be taken. The referee clearly did not regard this as kicking the ball away to delay the restart of the game.
