The winter break seems to be arriving at a good time for Man City, who will be without several senior players for today's trip to Everton.

Aside from the aforementioned injury to captain Alex Greenwood, the side will be without forwards Vivianne Miedema (knee), Lauren Hemp (knee) and Khadija Shaw (lower leg) until the new year.

Summer recruit Risa Shimizu remains a long term absentee after suffering an ACL injury after signing for the club.

However boss Gareth Taylor has said that there will be "no whinging from anyone" as they look to end the first half of the domestic campaign on a positive note by closing the gap to leaders Chelsea.

"We are having a tough time at the minute with injuries but there is no whinging about it at all from anyone," said the City boss.

Everton boss Brian Sorensen says his side will have to be "super sharp" when they host title contenders Manchester City this afternoon.

Gareth Taylor's side head to Walton Hall Park with several key injuries, but Sorensen knows that his side need to be at their best to take anything from the game.

"We will try to see if we can finish off for Christmas with a good result," said Sorensen. "Despite the injuries they [Manchester City] have, they are playing really well at the moment. They have absolute quality in every position."

The Toffees sit one point and one place above the relegation zone with just one win from their opening nine games.

"The girls have been doing everything they can, this league is extremely tough. We just need a bit of consistency and we will be okay," Sorensen added.

Man City captain Alex Greenwood was taken off on a stretcher in the first half of the side's 2-0 Champions League win over St Polten in midweek.

The defender came off worse from an awkward collision with St Polten's Melanie Brunnthaler.

Boss Gareth Taylor confirmed after the game that the club are still awaiting scan results to know the full extent of the injury.

He said: "She was ok but we are awaiting the results of her scan and are continuing to assess her. Hopefully she is ok because she has been crucial to what we have done not just this season but seasons past."

That said, Chloe Kelly and Laura Coombs return to the bench after spells on the sidelines.

Taylor makes three changes to the side which beat St Polten, with Khiara Keating replacing Ayaka Yamashita in goal, Laia Aleixandri replacing the injured Greenwood and Jill Roord coming in for Lily Murphy.

Champions Chelsea's shock draw with strugglers Leicester yesterday has left the table in an intriguing state heading into this afternoon's games.

Title rivals Man City know a win at Everton at lunchtime will cut the gap at the top to just three points.

The Foxes' point also adds a bit of extra pressure to managerless Aston Villa and West Ham's battle at the bottom.

Arsenal and Manchester United have the chance to consolidate themselves in the Champions League spots when they face Liverpool and Crystal Palace later on.
