Clyde opened their season by thumping Scottish League 2 rivals Edinburgh City away from home in the Premier Sports Cup group stage.

Ian McCall's side continued the form that lifted them clear of a relegation play-off last season on the final day of the season as they swept aside hosts who finished bottom of League 1.

A debut goal after 22 minutes for former Cove Rangers forward Kyle Connell had the visitors ahead at the break.

However, striker Martin Rennie and Marley Redfern, the midfield signing from Hamilton Academical, had them three up by the hour.

And two goals within two minutes from former Queen of the South striker Lee Connelly and defender Logan Dunachie made sure of the three points with 13 minutes remaining.

Clyde sit second in Group G, two points behind Motherwell, who beat Edinburgh 3-0 at the weekend and visit on Saturday, but with a game in hand.
