West Bromwich Albion had 79% possession but couldn't break Millwall down

West Bromwich Albion missed the chance to go level at the top of the Championship as Millwall held the Baggies to a goalless draw at the Hawthorns.

The home side enjoyed 79% possession but were frustrated by determined defending by the Londoners, with top scorer Josh Maja blazing their best chance over the crossbar in the first half.

Japhet Tanganga and Mihailo Ivanovic missed chances for the visitors as Millwall looked to soak up the pressure and hit the home side on the break in a game of few opportunities.

The Baggies are now winless in three matches and sit fourth in the table with 17 points, two points behind leaders Sunderland, while Millwall have nine points from nine games and lie 18th.

West Brom had 13 shots to Millwall's six, but only three were on target

The Baggies went into the match on the back of two defeats by Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough, having won their previous four league games.

Hayden Hackney's winner for Boro on Tuesday was the first goal West Brom have conceded at home in the league this season, where they now have four clean sheets.

Carlos Corberan's side had 13 shots against the Lions but only managed three on Lukas Jensen's goal.

Millwall dug deep to earn the clean sheet and could have celebrated all three points had Tanganga connected cleanly with a volley when he found space on the edge of the six-yard box.

But neither side could find that cutting edge and the points were shared.

West Brom travel to Oxford United next in a fortnight after next weekend's international break, while the Lions host Derby County at The Den.

West Bromwich Albion boss Carlos Corberan told BBC Radio WM:

"We have been controlling the ball and attacking more than them. We have stopped them making any transition or big chances, but at the same time we didn't find the right solutions in the final third of the pitch to score the goal that would have been important today.

"I think we have to have the game under more control. It's true that we didn't find the way to score the goal today or in the previous game neither."

On Josh Maja's first-half opportunity: "Probably it was the biggest chance and sometimes in football you score that goal and the game changes completely because you are going to defend more and attack more spaces.

"We are going to do all that we can do to find solutions for the rest of the competition."

Millwall boss Neil Harris told BBC Radio London:

"I thought the shape and discipline of the team, the execution of the game plan, was brilliant. I'm delighted with the four points in the week.

"Nine points from nine games, I wouldn't say I'm delighted with that return. The stats don't lie but we've deserved a lot more than that.

"We'll come back after the break now recharged and re-energised, better in our execution hopefully, and taking more of the chances we've created and start moving up the table.

"We wanted to frustrate the stadium and pay respect to West Brom and how good they've been. They are very creative so we knew we were going to have to be very disciplined and organised. I can't praise the players highly enough."
