Grimsby will have a new face in goal this evening - Barnsley goalkeeper Jackson Smith has joined the Mariners on a seven-day emergency loan after Jake Eastwood was ruled out for six months following a knee injury he sustained during their win over Carlisle on Saturday.

Grimsby were already without Jordan Wright, who has a shoulder injury of his own, and had only 17-year-old Seb Auton to hold the fort.

Auton made his senior debut in Eastwood's stead in the 12th minute at the weekend, but it is Smith who has got the nod to start against league leaders Gillingham.

Grimsby have not won a league away game against the Gills since November 1997, so Smith could win a few Mariners hearts if he were start his week-long stay off with a big performance.

Walsall and Fleetwood have found themselves to be on different ends of the spectrum when it comes to playing midweek fixtures.

The Saddlers are unbeaten in their past 10 midweek league fixtures on home soil, winning four and drawing six, while Fleetwood lost both their past two midweek league games. They last sustained three midweek defeats in a row in March 2022, something they will want to avoid tonight.

Fleetwood have not fared all too well during their visits to Walsall either, having lost four of their past five EFL away games to the West Midlands side.

  3. Ironside looks to deliver another blow to Barrowpublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 1 October

    Doncaster v Barrow (19:45 BST)

Doncaster striker Joe Ironside, who is a substitute for Rovers this evening, has not found the net in League Two this season so far - but that could all be about to change as Rovers host Barrow.

The 30-year-old has been a thorn in the Bluebirds' side in all four of his EFL appearances against the club, scoring in every single one of them.

To make matters worse, Barrow are coming off two defeats in a row; a 5-0 loss at Chelsea in the Carabao Cup and a 2-0 league loss to leaders Gillingham.

Yet the Bluebirds have had some good fortune in Yorkshire in recent history, having won four of their past six league away games in the county.

Can the visitors stop Ironside from continuing his scoring streak against them and leave him searching for his first goal of the season a little while longer?

    AFC Wimbledon P-P Crewe

There is one scheduled League Two game that is not going ahead tonight, between AFC Wimbledon and Crewe, and it is not just because the pitch at Plough Lane is undergoing repair for major flooding damage.

The fixture has been postponed because Wimbledon's Carabao Cup third-round tie against Premier League side Newcastle is going ahead this evening.

It was due to be played last midweek but had to be rescheduled and relocated to St James' Park because of the unplayable surface at Wimbledon.

That has, in turn, forced their game with Crewe to be rearranged for a later date.

    Welcome along!

The EFL games are coming thick and fast, with close to a full round of League One and League Two fixtures to get stuck into on this Tuesday evening.

Leaders Birmingham are aiming to make it seven league wins in a row against a Huddersfield side that have hit a blip, losing their past three.

Wrexham are trying to keep pace with Blues and they visit Stevenage, while at the other end of the table, Rotherham travel to Cambridge, who are still in search of their first win of the season.

Steve Bruce is looking to make it five wins on the bounce since taking over at Blackpool, who welcome fellow high-fliers Lincoln to Bloomfield Road in League One.

In League Two, early pace-setters Gillingham are looking to continue their fine start to the season at home to Grimsby.

Walsall could secure a fourth consecutive victory at home to Fleetwood who are also unbeaten in three, while Doncaster and Barrow, two more sides competing near the top of the division, come up against each other.

Just a bit to keep us entertained tonight, then? Let's get going!
