  8. Is Donnarumma better than Trafford?published at 21:55 British Summer Time 1 September

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Do I think Gianluigi Donnarumma is a better goalkeeper than James Trafford? Absolutely.

[They say] Donnarumma can't use his own feet? I'm afraid he can use his feet and he has used his feet.

  9. 'Donnarumma is capable with his feet'published at 21:54 British Summer Time 1 September

    Joe Hart
Former England and Man City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live Monday Night Club

On whether it's surprising that Guardiola is going for a goalkeeper like Gianluigi Donnarumma:

Unfortunately I fell fowl of his shift [in tactics] but I'm not going to judge him for that. I actually think Donnarumma... I know how you feel mate.

He is capable with his feet, more than capable. I've watched him play under pressure for Italy, I've watched him from 16 years old. There's a man that can hold his nerve. For AC Milan all the way through and then he goes to PSG and helps to win their first Champions League trophy.

I am a big James Trafford fan, I am pleased with how he has done and how he's gone back to City, but why would you not sign Donnarumma? He can win you games, he is absolutely humongous in goal, making top, top saves at the top level.

I would be gutted if I was James Trafford. A class keeper who is now going to be playing second fiddle, even if it is to arguably one of the world's best keepers.

European football expert on Transfer Deadline Day Summer 2025

Everybody has been watching with a lot of envy as there is not much financial power anywhere else other than the Premier League.

Top European clubs are thinking, 'how is it possible to spend that much money when you have PSR in England'.

The financial power is so different. A lot of European clubs wish they could have the financial power that English clubs have.

  14. 'That's the difference'published at 21:47 British Summer Time 1 September

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender on Transfer Deadline Day Summer 2025

On clubs not only buying well but also being able to sell well:

Liverpool are incredible at what they do. The players that they have sold over the summer and their market values, Jarrell Quansah to Leverkusen, Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford, possibly Harvey Elliott might be leaving as well.

You look at those deals and then on the flip side head over to Old Trafford and the likes of Antony, who was bought in for £90 million or so and a few years later you're selling him for around £25 million - that's the difference.

  15. 'They have the pressure of wearing the Liverpool shirt'published at 21:46 British Summer Time 1 September

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender on Transfer Deadline Day Summer 2025

On Liverpool building relationships and new players taking on the pressure of the shirt:

You've got two new attackers and they also need to build relationships, and that will take time.

The other side to it as well, players come from so-called lesser sides to Liverpool and they have the pressure of wearing the Liverpool shirt. You're not just trying to win games but you're trying to win titles. That is a different pressure.

Fulham had also agreed a £22m move for Chelsea forward Tyrique George earlier on deadline day but it collapsed in the late hours.

It's unclear exactly why it collapsed but Fulham already completed the signings of two long-term targets for the wide positions.

Yet, the primary reason George's move fell through was he was a contingency option in case Leeds made an offer Fulham couldn't refuse for Harry Wilson.

But ultimately no offer arrived and they preferred to keep the Wales international.
