Norwich 0-0 Oxford
Oxford have an early effort on target inside 25 seconds.
Ole Romeny has a shot in a decent position but it is quite comfortably dealt with by Norwich keeper Vicente Reyes on his debut.
Josh Sargent scored his eighth goal in his past eight appearances for Norwich
Norwich City missed the chance to close within one point of the Championship play-off places as they were held at home by Oxford United.
The Canaries got off to the perfect start as in-form striker Josh Sargent converted Kellen Fisher's cross from close range after just five minutes.
But Oxford drew level 13 minutes later as the home side failed to deal with a Will Vaulks long throw and Mark Harris turned to fire past debutant Norwich goalkeeper Vicente Reyes.
For all their possession and territorial advantage, Norwich rarely troubled Jamie Cumming until the final minute when Borja Sainz got free down the left only for the visiting goalkeeper to deny the Canaries' leading scorer with his left boot.
With Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup making five changes to his starting line-up, including the loss of goalkeeper Angus Gunn to a hamstring injury and dropping captain Shane Duffy to the bench, the home side had an unfamiliar look to it.
But the Canaries came out of the blocks quickly to get their noses in front.
Fisher was set free down the right and his pinpoint cross arrived at the feet of Sargent, who made no mistake from barely six yards to register his eighth goal in eight matches.
Oxford almost struck back immediately but Harris and Ole Romeny both failed to get on the end of an inviting Ciaron Brown cross.
Norwich failed to heed the warning, though.
Vaulks' long throw caused the hosts trouble all evening and his very first missile into the Canaries box led to the equaliser.
Jack Stacey headed the ball against the back of team-mate Anis Ben Slimane and Harris pounced to notch his sixth goal of the season but his first since 26 December.
Another Vaulks throw almost had Oxford in front midway through the first period with home defender Callum Doyle heading just past his own post.
Sargent then had what he thought was his second goal of the night chalked off for offside just before the interval as Norwich finished the first period strongly.
They dominated much of the second period but struggled to create clear-cut chances against a resolute and well-drilled visiting defence.
Ante Crnac saw two efforts saved by Cumming before substitute Oscar Schwartau shot weakly straight at the goalkeeper.
Cumming saved his best for the the final minute as the Championship's joint-top scorer Sainz burst into the 18-yard box but, from a narrow angle, saw the left boot of the U's keeper deny him what would surely have been the winner.
Norwich are three points short of the top six before Saturday's games while for Oxford it is now eight games without a win, but this could prove a precious point as they edge towards safety on their return to the second tier of English football.
Norwich head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup speaking to the media after the game:
"I look at it where we can do better - we have to win nine out of 10 games like tonight and it seems not winning games like that happens too much to us.
"I'm pleased with a lot of things we did but there's a lack of killer instinct."
On the absence of captain Shane Duffy from the starting line-up:
"Shane was late for the team meeting. I set a culture for a football team and tell the players how we run things.
"It's unfortunate for Shane and he didn't do it on purpose but we've made it clear incidents like that cannot happen on game day.
"There is room for mistakes but in my view mistakes should be followed by consequences."
Oxford boss Gary Rowett told BBC Sport:
"Recently we haven't had the results to go with the performances.
"I felt we'd lost a bit of confidence and momentum and sometimes you need a performance like that and I thought we nullified a lot of what they did.
"After conceding so early we showed a lot of character - I'm really proud of the players."

Norwich City have lost just one of their ten home league games against Oxford United (W6 D3), though that sole defeat did come in their last clash with the U’s at Carrow Road in November 1998 (3-1).
After winning the reverse fixture 2-0 in August, Oxford United will be looking to record a first ever league double over Norwich City in the EFL.
Norwich City have scored the fewest set piece goals in the Championship this season (7), while it is also the lowest percentage of goals from set pieces of any side (12.5%, 7/56).
Oxford United have suffered defeat in their last three league games, their third run of three losses in a row of the season. The U’s last had a longer losing league run in February and March 2023 (five), while Gary Rowett has never lost four league games in a row in his entire managerial career, which has spanned 501 league games for six different clubs.
Emiliano Marcondes has been involved in 10 goals in his last 17 Championship games for Norwich City (4 goals, 6 assists), assisting a goal in three of his last four appearances.
