Whether you agree with booing Trent Alexander-Arnold or not, I'm not sure there's a lot of supporting former players in their new chapter going on in football these days, Christian.

It feels like more often than not, players returning to their old club get booed when it may seem strange to supporters of other sides.

As for enjoying being champions, I'm not sure that's been much of a problem for Liverpool fans...

In response to Dan (08.11), booing the whole team for a poor performance is completely different to booing one of your own legends, who actually has done nothing wrong other than deciding to play for the biggest club in the world. Get over it, enjoy being Champions, and continue to support TAA in his next chapter.

Its not right or wrong to boo TAA. Fans are allowed their opinion whether they agree or not but the coverage is heavily weighted to make Liverpool fans look bad. One of their best players ran his contract down and imagine a lot of fans would boo their player in the same situation. Yes Liverpool fans shouldn't be abusive or offensive but booing is neither.

'Fans entitled to own opinion' - Slot on Alexander-Arnold reaction

Will the draw with Arsenal be Trent Alexander-Arnold's final appearance in a Liverpool shirt? Possibly. But Arne Slot said if you want to win a game of football and you have a player like Alexander-Arnold on the bench and fit, you bring him on.

The Trent Alexander-Arnold situation overshadowed what was a very entertaining game.

Neither side really had much to play for and arguably had a half each of playing like it...

Liverpool scored twice in 87 seconds through Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz to lead 2-0 at the break with Arsenal floundering.

However, roles were reversed in the second half with Liverpool lacking the same energy they showed before the break and the Gunners storming back.

Gabriel Martinelli pulled one back two minutes after half-time and Mikel Merino equalised - having been played onside by Alexander-Arnold - with 20 minutes to go.

Merino was then sent off for a second bookable offence but Arsenal held on with Andy Robertson's strike at the death ruled out for a foul by Ibrahima Konate on Myles Lewis-Skelly in the build-up.

Funny how opposition fans are piling on the small amount of the Liverpools fans for booing Trent. I guess all the times that I’ve heard Man U/Spurs fans booing their entire team off at half time and full time this season was done out of respect for the players hard work? Fickle.

    Dan

It’s not like Liverpool supporters to boo their own players. Personally I don’t agree with it but realise some fans have the thought that if he wanted to leave then he should have left sooner so they could at least get a transfer fee for him. Running his contract down leaves the club with nothing in financial terms in return for the loyalty the club have shown to him. So I can see both sides of the story.

One pundit who did have sympathy for Trent Alexander-Arnold was Chris Sutton, who described the reaction to the right-back as "shocking".

"He deserves far greater respect than he was shown today," said Sutton. "What has he done wrong? He's won every trophy and wants a different challenge.

"It wasn't all Liverpool fans but it was shocking and embarrassing from the ones that did boo him."

What the Trent Alexander-Arnold situation has highlighted is the hurt fans feel when a local player wants to move on from their boyhood club. That, and leaving on a free.

On Sky Sports yesterday, Jamie Carragher, who only ever played for Liverpool, gave an insight into the player-supporter relationship.

"Liverpool supporters think playing for Liverpool is the utmost and when you're a local player, like Trent is, like I was, you can't see yourself as bigger than the club," he said.

"Supporters of any club wouldn't want to hear this, but most players in that dressing room probably want to play for Real Madrid.

"I've been in that dressing room, with players who have left us for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

"It's sometimes really hard for supporters. You feel like they fall for it every time, that a player loves them and then moves on."

The booing fans brought disgrace to our great club. Be annoyed, be angry even but for the sake of the game and the rest of the players bottle it til the final whistle. They no doubt affected the game.

At the end of the day, this is a break-up - and they're not always amicable.

When Arne Slot sent Trent Alexander-Arnold on as a substitute at Anfield yesterday, no-one really knew what reaction the 26-year-old would get. Boos? Cheers? Silence?

While it wasn't a deafening chorus of jeers, far from it, there was enough noise around the stadium to indicate a hero's send off is probably not on the cards for Alexander-Arnold when he leaves the club when his contract expires at the end of June - or earlier.

Reds boss Slot told Match of the Day after the game: "Everybody can have their own opinion and you can express it in any way you want to.

"I heard mixed opinions but the only opinion I have is I owe it to the players and fans to try to win a game of football."

But after all the positivity and celebrations that have been going on pretty much since Alexis Mac Allister put Liverpool in front against Tottenham a couple of weeks ago, the mood at Anfield shifted slightly midway through the second half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was brought on for Conor Bradley after 67 minutes and was loudly booed by a number of the fans in the ground on his first appearance since announcing he will leave the club on a free transfer this summer.

That led to a reaction from other supporters cheering him and while the Reds number 66 was booed whenever he touched the ball for the remainder of the game, there were clearly mixed feelings among the fans.

Regardless, the vice-captain stayed on the pitch to clap the fans at the end of the game.

TAA should never wear the shirt again, the reaction in the crowd was awful. He's made us mind up. I will never boo an LFC player while wearing the shirt. Move on.

As is now tradition, they received a guard of honour from their opponents and given Arsenal had their sights set on the league title this season, it's not something they'll have enjoyed too much...
