Now they know who is through to the FA Cup semi finals, the Premier League know what fixtures need to be slotted into a couple of spare midweeks that don't include European fixtures before the end of the season.

The first is immediately after the semi-finals in April, the second is before the final weekend.

Manchester City have two games to fit in, so will need both.

The big question for the Premier League is whether just City play in that midweek, or if Arsenal's outstanding home game against Chelsea and Liverpool's Merseyside derby trip to Everton, both of which were due to be played in the weekend just gone, are played in the April or May slot.

All three clubs playing three games in the final week sounds like something that could create a huge amount of drama.

I’m 52 and I thought I’d seen it all watching my team…. The highs, the awful lows including twice being forced to play outside of Coventry but Saturday was right up there… little old Coventry playing in an FA Cup semi-final and I’m still on a high 48 hours later. It will be tough but Mark Robins had built a proper team and you just never know...

Amid the chaos of yesterday's game, it is worth noting the performances of two young lads who were magnificent at Old Trafford and are set to be team-mates over the next fortnight.

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah showed maturity way beyond their years with their outstanding efforts.

Mainoo kept driving United on, whilst Quansah kept Rasmus Hojlund at bay even though both are only in the formative stages of their careers with a handful of senior appearances between them.

They have both been named in England's Under-21 squad this week.

On the evidence of yesterday, it won't be long before they are in the seniors.

West Ham 1-0 Chelsea, 2017. We waited for three trains, two buses and a 45-minute wait outside the London Stadium as it was a London derby. The first 5-second glimpse of action we had was Arnautovic scoring early on. I’m a Chelsea fan..

  9. Forest set to learn their fate?published at 09:03 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2024

Nottingham Forest are likely to discover the result of a hearing into their Premier League profit and sustainability rules breach this week.

They face a possible points deduction after being charged in January, along with Everton, for PSR breaches in their accounts up until 2022-23.

A hearing was held on 7 and 8 March.

Anything more than a three-point penalty would see Forest fall into the relegation zone, below Luton with nine games to go.

Premier League rules state the commission must "provide its decision, together with written reasons, within one week of the conclusion of the hearing".

Given nothing was published on Friday, it means the decision is likely to arrive this week, potentially as early as today.

Tottenham "didn't put in the effort" and need a "big wake-up call" after their defeat by Fulham at Craven Cottage, says captain Son Heung-min.

Knowing a win would take them back into the Premier League top four, Tottenham were well below par in a 3-0 loss.

Rodrigo Muniz scored either side of Sasa Lukic's strike while Spurs failed to find the net for the first time in the league under Ange Postecoglou.

I was given a ticket to see Arsenal play in the final of the Uefa Cup in 2000. It was held in Copenhagen. Despite my best efforts I could only get a flight as far as Holland, so I hired a car and drove from Schiphol Airport to the stadium, all 500 miles of it. All this to see the Gunners lose 1-0 to Galatasaray. Happy days?

Luke Berry scored an 89th-minute equaliser for Luton as they salvaged a point at home to Nottingham Forest as both teams battle for Premier League survival.

Chris Wood had put Forest ahead when he stretched to convert Morgan Gibbs-White's dink to the back post.

With time running out, Reece Burke headed Ross Barkley's corner towards goal and Berry finished on the spin from six yards.

Ryan Yates nearly gave Forest all three points in the final minute of added time but his sweet strike flew just wide to keep the gap between the sides at three points, with Luton in 18th, a place below their visitors.

Burnley boosted their slim hopes of Premier League survival with a nervy victory over 10-man Brentford at Turf Moor.

Jacob Bruun Larsen's early penalty gave the hosts the perfect start after the video assistant referee (VAR) adjudged Sergio Reguilon to have committed a professional foul on Clarets winger Vitinho, resulting in a straight red card for the Tottenham loanee.

David Datro Fofana was guilty of one of the misses of the season shortly before the interval, somehow scuffing his shot wide after Lorenz Assignon had picked out the young Ivorian.

But Chelsea loanee Fofana made amends midway through the second period, taking Wilson Odobert's pass in his stride and calmly beating Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken to double Burnley's advantage.

Odobert spurned an excellent opportunity to make it 3-0, before Kristoffer Ajer's late header gave Brentford hope.

I was lucky enough to be at Wolves on Saturday for Coventry's amazing quarter-final victory.

Given Wolves scored twice in the final seven minutes of normal time to get their noses in front, only for Coventry to respond in the seventh and 10th minutes of stoppage time to turn the game on its head, and Mark Robins to have to apologise for celebrating in front of a ball-boy, who had irritated him with his earlier antics, I didn't think that would be beaten for entertainment.

    But yesterday did eclipse it.

That the two sides should now meet in the semi-final at Wembley is something fitting.

I suspect Robins will have to answer a few questions about 1990 in the build-up.

The Coventry boss didn't only score that famous third round winner at Nottingham Forest. He also scored the extra-time winner against Oldham in the semi-final replay.

Coventry City boss Mark Robins says leading the Sky Blues into only the second FA Cup semi-final in their history is a "pinch me" moment in his career.

The man who will forever be linked to the tournament because of his goal for Manchester United at Nottingham Forest in 1990 that helped Sir Alex Ferguson begin his glorious reign of success at Old Trafford, now has a managerial memory to last a lifetime as well.

Coventry won 3-2 in an epic contest at Molineux on Saturday, scoring twice in second-half stoppage time.

The Championship side initially led through Ellis Simms' controversial opener, then conceded twice in the final seven minutes of normal time before striking in the seventh and 10th minutes of additional time.

It kept alive their hopes of becoming the first team outside the top flight to win the FA Cup since West Ham in 1980 and also their chances of emulating the legendary Sky Blues side of 1987, who beat Tottenham to lift the trophy.

"To get to a semi-final; you have to pinch me a little bit," he said. "It is great for the club and the support."

Robins was 20 when he scored his most famous goal - in a third-round 1-0 win against Forest when Ferguson's job was rumoured to be on the line. He went on to get an extra-time winner in the semi-final replay against Oldham and also came on as a substitute in the final, although he remained on the bench for the Wembley replay against Crystal Palace as United lifted the first silverware of the Ferguson era.

"It was 1990 and I had just broken into the team," he said. "I thought 'this is good, there will be loads of these'. It turned out there was only one."

A Coventry City supporter has just wandered past in the office and says she has cancelled a scheduled trip to Portugal so that she can get to Wembley for her side's FA Cup semi-final tie with Manchester United, which will either be played on Saturday, 20 April or Sunday, 21 April 2024.

    BBC Sport

With time ticking down yesterday and his side flagging as the number of games they have played and the number of injuries they have had to cope with started to catch up with them, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp went to use another substitute.

He had already used five but he wanted to use the extra time period to freshen up even more, as he had in the EFL Cup final against Chelsea last month.

Except he couldn't. He was reminded that, unlike the EFL Cup and European club competitions, clubs are not given a sixth substitute in extra-time in the FA Cup.

“I have no clue why the FA make it so you cannot change a sixth player in extra-time,” Klopp told my BBC colleague John Murray

“I was told before the game but I forgot.

“All other competitions have six but the FA thought ‘we must make it a little bit harder’.”
