Are we expecting Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City to do any more business?

Chelsea have brought in the likes of Lucy Bronze and a couple of players from the French League, Mariona Caldentey has gone to Arsenal and Netherlands striker Vivianne Miedema has moved from Arsenal to Manchester City, so they are all pretty happy.

Caldentey has already, in the first couple of games of pre-season and Women's Champions League qualifying, has absolutely lit up the stage for Arsenal, so she’ll be a big one to watch.

Arsenal allowed Miedema to leave for free, which was hugely controversial at the time. Manchester City were smart and picked her up.

They’re all pretty happy with their business so far.

Brighton are set to bring in Arsenal’s Michelle Agyemang on loan for the season. She is a very highly-rated England youth player. We can also say Brighton are targeting Manchester United forward Nikita Parris, but no official agreements have been reached yet.

  3. Nunes signing a 'statement of intent' from Villapublished at 10:26 British Summer Time 13 September 2024

Gabi Nunes arrives at Aston Villa as the club's eighth signing of the summer, with the club-record £250,000 fee a further signal of their heavy investment following the appointment of Robert de Pauw as manager.

It is a statement of their intent to challenge the WSL's traditional top four - Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Nunes' arrival sits up there with some of the biggest transfers in WSL history.

Chelsea's signing of Mayra Ramirez for £384,000 remains the British record, while Jill Roord joined Manchester City for a club-record fee in excess of £300,000 in 2023.

The WSL transfer window closes on Friday, 13 September at 23:00 BST.

Sven-Goran Eriksson's coffin has now been carried out of Fryksande church in his home town of Torsby in Sweden.

Members of the local sports club formed a guard of honour outside the church as the procession of mourners left.

David Beckham, who was Eriksson's captain for the majority of his five years as England manager, was among the mourners, which also included ex-Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson.

The hearse is now making its way to Kollsbergs rural community museum for eulogies and tributes.

Earlier, hundreds of people gathered outside the church to watch the funeral service on a big screen.

Joe [Willock] is improving - he has been training with the group this week, albeit not full training. Positive signs for him.

"Callum [Wilson] is a little bit behind where we want him to be. We envisaged he might be training for the games coming up, but he is not there yet. Emil [Krafth] has been nursing a problem, we have seen him in training, he's joined in the last couple of days so we are hoping he will be fine."

“We are very pleased to welcome her to our team.”

  10. Howe 'pleased' with Newcastle startpublished at 09:56 British Summer Time 13 September 2024

Wolves v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Right, Eddie Howe has now started his news conference.

The Newcastle United manager said his side had not yet hit "top gear" and called for more consistency heading into a difficult run of away games, but overall he was positive about the club's start to the campaign.

"Really pleased with the start we have made," he said. "Performance wise, we haven’t hit top gear. We have done well in different passages of each game but not consistently throughout the 90 minutes, that's what we're looking to do, what we are going to have to do because we are going into a spell where we are playing away from home now, some difficult games."

  11. Summer 'unsettling' but Howe wants to 'be manager who wins a trophy'published at 09:53 British Summer Time 13 September 2024

    Newcastle United

BBC Radio Newcastle's Matthew Raisbeck spoke about the future of Newcastle boss Eddie Howe during a supporters' Q&A on the station, following upheavals in the club's hierarchy over the summer, including a change of sporting director:

Magpies fan Bob: Do you think Eddie Howe will still be at Newcastle come January?

Matthew: I do. Howe has made a long-term commitment to Newcastle United and is determined to be the manager who wins a trophy. His love for the club and strong bond with the supporters should not be underestimated.

However, I think the events of the summer have been unsettling for everyone.

Howe said just two months ago he needs to be "happy and feel supported and feel free to do the work that I love to do". The changes off the pitch also mean new working relationships have to be built. It is in everyone's interests for these to be positive.

If results continue to be good and performances improve, there is no argument for the club to change manager.

Newcastle do have to strengthen in January because another window without a major signing will do Howe and his players no favours whatsoever.

  13. Howe coming up...published at 09:41 British Summer Time 13 September 2024

Wolves v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

From a relatively buoyant Liverpool training ground to Newcastle and Eddie Howe, who we will hear from shortly.

The Magpies boss has come under repeated scrutiny over the opening weeks of the season following links with the permanent England manager's job, as well as the club's failure to land their key transfer target - Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

But despite all of that, Newcastle have made a steady start to the campaign and are fifth in the Premier League table going into Sunday's match at Wolves.

  14. 'Slotball' reigning supreme in defence?published at 09:30 British Summer Time 13 September 2024

Liverpool v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool have won all three of their Premier League games under new manager Arne Slot without conceding a single goal.

No manager in the competition’s history has kept a clean sheet in each of their first four matches in charge, while only six have won each of their first four, most recently Maurizio Sarri in 2018.

Liverpool could be only the fifth side in English top-flight history to win each of their opening four in a season without conceding, after Aston Villa in 1900-01, Ipswich Town in 1974-75, Chelsea in 2005-06, and Manchester City in 2015-16.

  15. Contract situation 'not disruptive' - Slotpublished at 09:22 British Summer Time 13 September 2024

Liverpool v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Liverpool

A final word from Arne Slot on the contract situations of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold: "It's again the boring answer that you'll get from me. We don't talk about contract news here. It is not disruptive because we work with the team and try to get the best out of them."

On Alexander-Arnold: "He proved he could do 90 minutes. He became tired in the Ipswich game. He's completely ready to play 90 [now]. We have another player like Conor Bradley, who can do the job really well. We have a whole team to manage and it's also good for Conor to get his playing minutes. It's not always the individual, I look at the team and the whole squad for the fixtures."

On Alexis Mac Allister and team news: "He was out in the last game, but he trained with us yesterday. Harvey Elliott is out for a longer time, but I'm expecting Macca to be with us tomorrow."

  16. Gravenberch is 'benefiting from how the team is playing'published at 09:17 British Summer Time 13 September 2024

Liverpool v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Arne Slot on the form of Netherlands midfielder Ryan Gravenberch: "He's been a midfielder all his life and maybe he's playing a bit deeper than he did before, but it's not much of a difference. He is benefiting from how the team is playing.

"He came back really fit and took his chance. We are talking about the benefits of a team structure.

"If trust means that you play him then I trust him, but I also trust the ones I'm not playing. If it was that simple then I would have thrown my trust to every player. If he trusts his team-mates and the structure then that will help, of course."

On concerns over the possibility of losing momentum after the international break: "That's always the question after two weeks [between games], but if you saw them play with their national team then the moment is still there. Nottingham Forest haven't lost this season yet, I think they won the last two games of last season too."

  17. 'It's normal they want to play' - Slot on Kelleher's commentspublished at 09:13 British Summer Time 13 September 2024

Liverpool v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Liverpool

More from Liverpool manager Arne Slot on Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher's future at the club, following his comments about wanting to be a "number one": "I would be really worried if a player came out and said I don't care about playing first-team football. It's normal they want to play and it's also normal for a club like this to have more than 11 players who want to play.

"It's a good place to be and he's shown many times that he's ready whenever we need him.

"It's a good thing he wants to play. Who knows if he'll play for us in the future, but it's quite clear that Alisson is the number one for this moment."

  18. 'It's a blow for us and for him' - Slot on Elliott injurypublished at 09:09 British Summer Time 13 September 2024

Liverpool v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on Harvey Elliott's injury: "Harvey's injury is, of course, not a just big disappointment for him but also for us. He didn't play a lot in the first three games but he showed himself really well in pre-season. He would have had a lot of playing time in the upcoming fixtures but that goes to someone else. It's a blow for us and for him. We play seven games in 22 days or something like that."

On summer signing Federico Cheisa: "Federico has trained with the team three or four times so let's see how he does today with the decision I make. We have more than 20 players."
