Get Involved - Mourinho to Everton?published at 12:12 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

The real advantage of having Mourinho manage Everton would be an immediate uplift in profile. Consider this: young Villa winger Jaden Philogene has chosen to sign for Ipswich over Everton, despite Everton being an ever-present in the Premier League, under new ownership and moving to a new state-of-the-art stadium for next season, while Ipswich remain favourites for relegation back to the Championship. The reason given is that he was won over by McKenna. Dyche will never attract players to Everton, even if the money is there. Mourinho most certainly would. For the drama that comes with him, effective football and some decent signings would greatly benefit the club’s ambitions to become re-established in the upper half of the league.

  2. Will Van Nistelrooy give academy players a chance?published at 12:07 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

Leicester v QPR (Sat, 14:00 GMT)

    Leicester City

And finally, Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy on whether he will give academy players a chance at some point against QPR: "It's important to keep our development going. We want to break the current run of defeats. We want to play well and gain confidence, so they're all parts that I'll think about."

  3. 'I love the FA Cup' - Van Nistelrooypublished at 12:02 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

Leicester v QPR (Sat, 14:00 GMT)

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy on the FA Cup: "I love the competition. It's the oldest cup competition and the most famous one. It's important to represent that and enjoy it.

"I'm a proud winner of the FA Cup as a player. I know how much it meant to me. It's a fantastic tournament to be a part of. It's important to take it very serious and every game we approach, we plan to win."

  4. 'PSR was topic in conversation' - Van Nistelrooypublished at 11:58 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

Leicester v QPR (Sat, 14:00 GMT)

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy on speculation around the club's position concerning profit and sustainability rules (PSR): "It was a topic in the conversations before I signed. We're clear on that and what the situation is. So far, there hasn't been any other signs or news on that.

"I'm focusing on getting the right players in and winning at the same time."

More from West Ham fans on Graham Potter's appointment:

Tony: To be frank, until the culture changes at the top of the club, it will not really matter who is wearing the managers tracksuit. Time for a much bigger change if we want to really compete in the top six.

Dave: Potter's win percentage looks poor. He made Brighton relevant in the Premier League and they showed a lively style. There is some glimmer of hope that he can bring some 'progressive' approach to the Irons.

AW: Solid appointment - an experienced, young Premier League manager. Knows the league, knows the teams, knows the players. Let us hope he takes his career and West Ham to the next level.

Terry: He will probably last about as long as Lopetegui! Disappointing in the extreme. Should have held out for someone with more experience and a better track record. Come back, Big Sam!

  6. Van Nistelrooy 'feels responsibility' to get right playerspublished at 11:52 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

Leicester v QPR (Sat, 14:00 GMT)

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy on whether the club will make any January transfers: "We are right in the middle of the process.

"It's clear what we want and we're working on that day and night. I also feel strong responsibility to get the right players in, that is right for the squad and also the club in the long term.

"It's a delicate process that takes time and effort and a lot of work to bring in the right players at the right time."

Graham Potter got Lewis Dunk to a level where he was an England defender. He coached Brighton to play football and both Roberto De Zerbi and Fabian Hurzeler have recognised that. Lopetegui’s task was always going to be hard because under Moyes we were a low block, low possession, low scoring side for three years. Changing that is a massive job. Potter can do it, but he will need three years. I'll settle for more football but 12th place while he gets it right.

Leicester v QPR (Sat, 14:00 GMT)

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has arrived for his press conference before his side's FA Cup third round clash with Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. Team news is the first order of business for the Dutchman to address.

Centre-back Jannik Vestergaard is a doubt for the visit of QPR. The Denmark international was brought off in the second half of the 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa and will be assessed.

Van Nistelrooy has no fresh update on goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, adding the Dane is in team training but is still unavailable.

Midfielder Kasey McAteer could return on Saturday.

All those ‘Happy Hammers’ should look at the actual figures from Potter’s reign at the Albion. Towards the end, there was some promise, but there were long periods of bleakness, beforehand. Team selection, and lack of goals were big issues. Very few were sorry to see him go.

  11. 'Potter is not the first choice for most West Ham fans'published at 11:38 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

    BBC Sounds

West Ham podcaster and fan Sean Whetstone speaking to the Football Daily podcast: "I don't think Graham Potter is the first choice for most West Ham fans. Julen Lopetegui wasn't the first choice. In the blog I run, we ran a big poll of 11,000 people and most people wanted to keep David Moyes over Lopetegui but we supported him.

"I think most people would not want Graham Potter. Critics would say Potter was flattered by Tony Bloom and Dan Ashworth's recruitment formula at Brighton. It didn't work at Chelsea and what has he done elsewhere?

"That's why I think there was some nervousness and talk of a short-term contract until the end of the season."

  12. Graham Potter stats - what are his win percentages?published at 11:35 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

Jack [11:26] raised an interesting point about Graham Potter's win percentages.

Of all the permanent West Ham managers in the Premier League, David Moyes has the best win percentage at 36.9%.

Julen Lopetegui's win percentage of exactly 30% was 10th best of 12 bosses.

Interestingly though, Lopetegui's win percentage across his 23 games in charge of Wolves was 39.1%.

Incoming manager Graham Potter's win percentage was 28.3% at Brighton and 31.8% at Chelsea, although that perhaps does not tell the whole story.

Ashley and Tyler young - From father and son to FA Cup opponents

Hopefully the weather will thaw slightly on Merseyside so we get to see Everton take on Peterborough tonight. The Toffees are making "every effort" to ensure their FA Cup third-round tie goes ahead.

BBC Sport's John Watson speaks to Ashley and Tyler Young as the father and son prepare to face each other at Goodison Park.

Ashley is 39 years old, son Tyler is still a teenager at 18.

Thumbs up if you reckon you would beat your dad at footy?

Potter to West Ham being lauded as a great move is proof that football is a game of perceptions. West Ham have just chased out a former Real Madrid manager who was only one point behind 'the league’s entertainers' Tottenham, after chasing out their most successful manager of this century. Graham Potter’s win percentages since Östersunds are underwhelming and don't reflect the perception that he is a successful manager.

  16. What would Marmoush bring to Man City?published at 11:23 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

    Raphael Honigstein
German football journalist on BBC Euro Leagues podcast

Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar MarmoushImage source, Getty Images

A really dynamic, wide forward who can play through the middle - he is not really a winger and he is not really a centre-forward; he is in between.

Some people have compared him to his compatriot Mohamed Salah. He is perhaps not quite as tricky and explosive but his finishing is incredible. He is one of those players that came to Germany when he was 18 and for six years and you think 'OK, interesting player but probably not really going to set the world alight,' then suddenly this season he has absolutely exploded to a different level.

It is to the point we are talking 60-70m euros, maybe 80m euros, in the transfer market. There will be a big move ahead for him and that is why he is one to watch because it is very unlikely Eintracht Frankfurt will stick with him. Some big clubs will come in for him and, if he continues on the same path, he is going to be a superstar.

He will be a great buy for whoever gets him.

Manchester City are trying to sign Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt this January.

However, with Frankfurt flying high in the Bundesliga and the German side wanting to keep the forward, City acknowledge this could be the most difficult transfer target to complete this window.

  19. 'We'll give Potter a chance'published at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

    BBC Sounds

West Ham podcaster and fan Sean Whetstone speaking to the Football Daily podcast: "I think some fans are turning against [technical director] Tim Steidten. He spent a lot of money on Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme, a player who hasn't come up to spec. [West Ham vice-chair] Karren Brady has led the push for Graham Potter all the way. Let's see if he lasts the two-and-a-half years or if he feels he's ripe for a bigger club.

"There's a view from some West Ham fans that he needs the club more than the club needs him but he has played hard ball and got a two-and-a-half year deal. We'll give him a chance and hope he can replicate what he did at Brighton and push us further up the league - maybe even into Europe. We're optimists and dreamers at West Ham."
