Newcastle fan here - I think Graham Potter is an excellent, intelligent coach, very much like Eddie Howe. Great appointment by West Ham and good luck to them. Potter's experience at Chelsea says more about the chaos at that club than it does about him.

I’d like to see Potter tighten up our defence to start off with. Exciting attacking football can wait. As for ‘The West Ham Way’ the only people I hear use that phrase are pundits and other fans. Never heard a West Ham fan mention it.

A statement from Everton says they hope to go ahead with tonight's FA Cup third round match against Peterborough despite freezing conditions:

"A safety meeting involving the club and relevant authorities will be be held at 1pm to assess the weather and travel conditions for tonight’s FA Cup fixture against Peterborough United.

"At this stage the match is planned to go ahead as normal and every effort is being made to ensure that remains the case. We will continue to keep fans updated, and will provide more information following the meeting."

Wolves have completed the £16.6m signing of defender Emmanuel Agbadou from Reims.

The centre-back has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Molineux, with the option of an extra 12 months, and becomes Vitor Pereira's first signing at the club.

It also ends Wolves' interest in Lens' defender Kevin Danso as they moved for Agbadou, 27, over the Austria international.

Sporting director Matt Hobbs said: "Emmanuel's a winner and he's driven. After the journey's had, he's still unbelievably hungry. He's the type of player the Wolves fans should love, because you're going to get absolutely everything he's got.

"When Vitor came in it's the first conversation we had, to add one quick. There are so many games in January, so you can't afford to waste a month. We have to use this month to be as efficient as possible, and we're really excited about this signing."

The defender joins with Wolves - who go to Bristol City in the FA Cup on Saturday - out of the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference.

Norwich v Brighton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler on what the FA Cup means to him: "I think it's similar to the Carabao Cup. It's a tournament, it's a competition where you have a chance to win a title. There are a lot of good opponents in this cup competition but in the end it's only one game and in one game, anything is possible.

"I've experienced it already in Germany the cup games - you can go really far in a tournament but you can also be out really quickly and I've experienced both perspective and sides.

"I'm really looking forward to it because we see it as a chance, an opportunity to win a tie."

As a non West Ham fan, I wish Potter the best and hope he works out for them. We need more English/British managers in the Premier League to improve the coaching in this country, so I think/hope that English Premier League fans will want him to succeed.

Norwich v Brighton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler on Graham Potter being appointed West Ham manager and whether he has had any experience with him in the past: "Not with him personally but I have spoken a lot of times with his assistant coach Bruno Saltor - I wish them all the best.

"I followed how they played here at Brighton because I think it's important as a new coach to understand history, to understand the past and to understand the philosophy of coaches that have worked here before. I think it was quite impressive what he achieved with Brighton.

"All the people that I have spoken to about him speak about him very positively and I think it's a very good sign when a manager leaves a club and all the people talk that positively. He had great achievements with this club and I wish him and his team all the best at West Ham."

  11. Pedro to have MRI on ankle injury suffered in trainingpublished at 09:47 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

Norwich v Brighton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler on team news: "Danny Welbeck, we will have to see tomorrow if he will be part of the group. Jack Hinshelwood too early. Mats Wieffer too early. Joao Pedro will be missing this game. Lewis Dunk will miss the game. We have some issues but the squad that we have on the pitch will be very competitive and strong enough to win this game."

More on the injury picked up by striker Joao Pedro: "I would love to have him on the pitch in the FA Cup but he has twisted his ankle in training and we have to wait for an MRI. If we have any clear results about that then we can let you know but we have to wait for the results."

  13. Philogene set for £20m move to Ipswichpublished at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

Aston Villa's Jaden Philogene is poised to join Ipswich for a guaranteed £20m.

The winger is due for a medical at the Tractor Boys and will sign a four-and-a-half year deal, ending his brief six-month return to Villa Park.

Philogene also had European interest, including from La Liga, but Ipswich are due to finally end their pursuit of the England Under-21 international.

They agreed a fee of around £18m with Hull in the summer only for Villa to activate their buy-back option - having sold Philogene to the Tigers in 2023.

Hull received about £13.5m of the fee because Villa had a 30% sell-on clause in the agreement which took him to the KC Stadium.

The 22-year-old chose to rejoin Unai Emery's side but has managed just four starts, including against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and 11 substitute appearances.

Ipswich maintained their interest and have now convinced Philogene - who was keen on working with boss Kieran McKenna last summer - to move to Suffolk.

The Tractor Boys are looking to add to their squad as they battle for survival and have already signed defender Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta this month.

And that, my friends, is the end of Graham Potter's first news conference as West Ham head coach.

"Very happy", "very proud" and "very privileged" are the main takeaways from that chat.

His first job is to guide the Hammers to a third-round FA Cup victory against Aston Villa and into the fourth round. You can watch that game on the telly on Friday night, but it's on the other side. You can, however, listen to full commentary from Villa Park on BBC Radio 5 Live.

  17. 'Privileged to be in this position' - Potterpublished at 09:26 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

Graham Potter on whether he feels lucky to be at West Ham: "I consider myself lucky to be here, thankful to be here. I apologise that my name has been linked [with lots of clubs], everybody is sick of it.

"I'm here now, very happy and proud and privileged to be in this position. I hope I can do a good job and the supporters are positive towards me. So far the support has been great, the words of encouragement have been touching."

  18. 'I'm comfortable in my own skin'- Potterpublished at 09:22 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

    West Ham United

Graham Potter on why he felt West Ham was the right club for him: "When you've had lots of time to think there's a feeling in you, a combination of lots of factors. The board's ambition, their trust and belief in me, looking at the playing squad, the academy, the work that Mark Noble does behind the scenes there. The supporters are passionate, knowledgeable, loyal.

"When you add it all up it's a massive club, It's a family club and that appeals to me too, that sense of fighting together.

On whether he feels he needs to prove himself after his time at Chelsea? "When I hear [Pep] Guardiola say he's got something to prove then we all have! It's the reality of professional sport. I'm comfortable in my own skin, who I am and what I've done. But nobody is perfect. Life is about accepting setbacks and mistakes and moving forward. I think I'm a better coach for the experience, I feel well rested."

  19. 'There has to be balance' - Potterpublished at 09:19 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January

    West Ham United

Graham Potter on creating a balanced side: "You can talk about attacking football and style of play but if you're not balanced it becomes difficult. Of course you want to attack and play good football but like in life, there has to be balance.

"I need to work with the players, learn about them, but until you get under the bonnet you're never sure. That's what I'm excited about."
