Brentford having sold their captain won't be wildly keen on too many more departures. Manchester United better hurry up on Bryan Mbeumo. If Spurs do go in for Wissa then I don't think Mbuemo will leave too.

  3. 'Norgaard can let Odegaard and Rice do their thing'published at 13:15 British Summer Time

    Edu Rubio
Former West Ham, Crystal Palace and Wolves first-team coach

Christian Norgaard is a modern defensive-anchor player. He can break up play, intercept, tackle, block and win aerial duels. He can let Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice do their thing while he protects their backs.

He can also recycle the ball and play forwards effectively. In a league where there are so many transitions, a player who senses danger and has a great ability to regain the ball can be a must-have in your team.

His physicality, and the fact it has been tested in the Premier League, also makes him a very sensible signing. He can be a great addition to Arsenal.

Norgaard will fit perfectly with Zubimendi. They can even play together if Arteta opts for two holding players and one 10, instead of one anchor and two number eights.

Zubimendi is more of a passer and creator. Norgaard is more a break-up-play midfielder who can regain possession, secure possession and stop the opposition from easily breaking into the final third.

Arteta is making sure he will have enough strength in the midfield area to compete in all four competitions.

There seems to be a fire sale at Brentford. I'm not complaining, we've just bought Norgaard off them. But I know where I'll be putting my free bet money on for relegation. Sorry Bees fans.

  7. What will Norgaard bring to Arsenal?published at 12:48 British Summer Time

    Matthew Hobbs
    BBC Sport

Christian Norgaard was linked with a reunion with former manager Thomas Frank at Tottenham this summer and his record shows why he is highly regarded by the top teams.

He has just completed his sixth successive season at Brentford, including all four of their Premier League campaigns.

Since his top-flight debut in 2021, Norgaard has made 201 interceptions - the most of any Premier League player during this period - and he ranks second for recoveries (844) and third for tackles won (189).

He is not renowned for goalscoring, but six goals in all competitions in 2024-25 was the best return of his career.

Norgaard is a traditional number six who screened for danger in front of Brentford's defence, breaking up opposition attacks.

  8. Norgaard's rise for club and countrypublished at 12:43 British Summer Time

Christian Norgaard joined Brentford from Fiorentina in 2019 and became a key player, captaining his side and making 196 appearances.

He helped the Bees win promotion from the Championship in 2021, before making 122 Premier League appearances.

The 31-year-old made his international debut for Denmark in 2020 and has gone on to earn 35 caps, scoring his only goal in a World Cup qualifier against Moldova four years ago.

  9. Norgaard 'earned opportunity at one of England's biggest clubs'published at 12:33 British Summer Time

Brentford's director of football Phil Giles has praised "fantastic" club captain Christian Norgaard, adding that the defensive midfielder will "always be welcomed back in the future".

During a six-year spell with the Bees, Norgaard made 196 appearances in all competitions and scored 13 goals along the way, six of which came during the 2024-25 campaign.

"On behalf of everyone at Brentford, I would like to thank Christian for everything he's done for the club over the last six years," Giles told the club website.

“He has been a key player for us, played a big part in helping us retain our Premier League status for the last four years, and has been a fantastic captain over the last couple of seasons.

“He has really earned the opportunity at one of England's biggest clubs through his performances and his personality. We wish him well and he will always be welcomed back at Brentford in future."

Good, solid signing for Arsenal. Adds experienced, Premier League proven quality and depth to a midfield that has a new identity going into next season - really excited to see how Arteta plans to use the full complement of Rice, Merino, Zubimendi, Norgaard, Odegaard and Nwaneri in those three positions. Eze and Gyokyres next please Arsenal!

  11. 'His proven leadership skills will be invaluable'published at 12:17 British Summer Time

Mikel Arteta believes Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard will bring "a wealth of experience" to his squad next season, as the Spaniard targets a first Premier League title as Arsenal manager.

Norgaard was today unveiled as the Gunners' third summer signing - following goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and midfielder Martin Zubimendi - after completing a £10m move from Brentford that could rise to £15m with add-ons.

"We are delighted to welcome Christian to Arsenal," Arteta told the club website. "He is an international player with a wealth of experience of the Premier League. He has proven leadership skills and a strong character which will be invaluable to our squad.

"He is a strong midfielder with excellent tactical awareness and versatility. He also has physical presence and intelligence which will give us added depth and balance.

"Christian will bring a lot to the group both on and off the pitch, and we are excited to start working with him in this next chapter of his career. We welcome Christian and his family to Arsenal."

Norgaard takes the number 16 shirt, last worn by defender Rob Holding, and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey before him.

  12. 'A childhood dream I didn't think would be possible'published at 12:10 British Summer Time

“You can get almost emotional because maybe it was a dream that I've given a little bit up on coming towards the later stage in my career," Christian Norgaard told the Arsenal website after sealing a £10m move to the north London club.

“I've just turned 31 and had signed a new deal with Brentford.

"Of course, there's always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them.

“Now, I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It's a childhood dream and something I didn't think would be possible. So it's something I'm really, really happy about.”

  16. Contrasting seasons for Kuduspublished at 11:56 British Summer Time

    Noel Sliney
    BBC Sport

Mohammed Kudus only scored five goals in the most recent campaign, down from 14 across all competitions in his debut season for West Ham.

For the second season running, Kudus attempted the most dribbles in the Premier League but his success rate dropped by 10% in 2024-25.

The Ghanaian’s ability is not in question though and suitors will point to his 2023-24 numbers and a brilliant run and finish against Freiburg that season either side of spectacular acrobatic goals against Brentford and Manchester City.

Kudus was great in his first season at West Ham and poor the last. He's a game-changer on his day, but last year didn’t have enough of them. Personally, I think he’s a bit selfish and was greedy. No doubt he’ll be a good signing and think the fee will prove to be £5m-£10m light. However, if we have to sell to buy to give Potter the cash to try and build a team he wants, then there’s no other option really. Hopefully, Paqueta will be cleared and sold to add more funds for a much needed re-build.

  18. Kudus tops dribbles attempted statspublished at 11:52 British Summer Time

Edu Rubio has highlighted how Mohammed Kudus maybe needs to add more interplay to his game, but he certainly remains one of the best ball carriers in the Premier League.

Last season's stats show that he attempted the most dribbles, completing 47% of the 195 he attempted.

  19. Sometimes Kudus needs to pass more in central areaspublished at 11:46 British Summer Time

    Edu Rubio
    Former West Ham first-team coach

Mohammed Kudus may need to improve his variation on decision making when on the ball, especially when playing centrally as he tends to get more exposed there and lose more possession easily.

He needs to understand that a pass and go (a one-two) can be more effective than trying to beat your man by one-on-one in those central areas.

Having said that, overall he can add goals, work-rate off the ball, uniqueness and pure desire and character into the squad.

He is a very exciting player.
