Summary

  1. Kudus's goals, pace and work-rate fits Frank's stylepublished at 11:36 British Summer Time

Former West Ham and Wolves first-team coach Edu Rubio believes Mohammed Kudus fits Tottenham's playing style under new boss Thomas Frank.

"Kudus can add an attacking threat to Spurs either from the right flank, cutting inside, or from a more central position," Rubio said.

"He is very versatile and - like Mbuemo, who became a very effective and important player for Thomas Frank at Brentford - he can add goals, pace and work-rate when pressing high.

"He can be a game changer too; he just needs to find that consistency needed at the top.

"However, Kudus fits Frank's 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 and also the manager’s desire to have quick and direct attacks when possible; therefore I believe Kudus can reach his potential and the consistency under a manager like Frank.

"Kudus can also add an aggressive high-press; his approach to close down the man on the ball is exceptional.

"He is rapid, intense and effective with it. "

  2. Recap: Henderson departs Ajax, Kudus & Madueke updatespublished at 11:33 British Summer Time

Well, Jordan Henderson has been the main topic of discussion this morning after Ajax agreed to let him leave a year before the end of his contract.

Here are the key talking points so far today:

We will now move back to some transfer chat, starting on on Mohammed Kudus and how he will fit in at Spurs.

  3. Henderson's turbulent relationship with Ajax fans and Dutch mediapublished at 11:27 British Summer Time

The correct question may be: why is Jordan Henderson available?

There remains plenty of disappointment at Ajax by the way they were pipped to the league title last season, blowing a nine-point lead to finish one point behind PSV.

Head coach Francesco Farioli has left the club, so it may be natural for a change of playing staff as well.

But it's also fair to say that Henderson's relationship with Ajax fans and the Dutch media had been quite the rollercoaster, even before their title collapse.

When the former Liverpool captain arrived at Ajax from Al-Ettifaq, the reception he received left a lot to be desired, with many people questioning his support for the LGBT community after his decision to move to a country - Saudi Arabia - where same-sex relationships are illegal.

He was quick to address the criticism during his unveiling at Johan Cruyff Arena, suggesting that he went to the Saudi Pro League to "learn", apologising to those who felt he "let them down" and highlighting that his "beliefs have never changed".

His time at the club was also marked by transfer speculation, with suggestions that he was trying to force a move to Monaco, leading to criticism from some fans and former Ajax midfielder Wesley Sneijder, who told him to "be a man and stand up" in the face of the rumours.

Despite the criticism, other fans did show their support for him throughout his stay, even chanting his name at an open training session on one occasion.

His standing with the fans also improved with his consistent performances and his commitment to the team, after his move to Monaco didn't transpire.

We asked earlier if fans would be happy to see Jordan Henderson sign for their Premier League club.

At present, the thumbs down have it by slightly more than a 2:1 ratio - although it is still early days for that straw poll.

But there are definitely supporters out there who would be keen to see the former Liverpool and England captain pull on their club's jersey.

The 35-year-old's experience and leadership qualities could be key at a club with enough fresh legs around him to make up for any loss of pace or stamina that comes naturally with age.

Sunderland fan here. Henderson has been a huge part of the club and is a proven winner at Liverpool and at times for England. The question is will his undoubted important influence at any club outweigh the potential cost of meeting his wages? My own view is no. Sunderland have set their stall out in terms of how they see the club developing and I’m not sure he fits anymore.

  6. Henderson 'could make a contribution to Sunderland'published at 10:53 British Summer Time

The timing of Sunderland's promotion back to the top flight for the first time since 2017 does seem to have been timed perfectly for Jordan Henderson, who has had his struggles since leaving Liverpool two years ago.

A return to his hometown club and the Premier League could well improve the 35-year-old midfielder's chances of retaining his England place in the run up to next summer's World Cup.

Henderson's potential return to the Stadium of Light was a hot topic during BBC Radio Newcastle's recent Total Sport Fans Forum.

Strikes me that Sunderland can spend all the money they want this summer but if they don't get Henderson back then it's not a good transfer window for them. Goodwill, leadership and experience on a free transfer. Move would work for player too ahead of the World Cup.

  11. From Anfield to Ajax - via the Saudi Pro Leaguepublished at 10:26 British Summer Time

In the summer of 2023, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson left Anfield to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.

He spent less than six months in the Saudi Pro League, Al-Ettifaq agreeing to cancel his contract so he could join Ajax on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 35-year-old, who also captained the Dutch giants, made more than 50 appearances in the Netherlands.

It is understood he has interest from clubs in England and top leagues in Europe as he aims to make next year's World Cup squad.

Henderson has featured in both full England squads since Thomas Tuchel's appointment as head coach in January.

After being left out of the preliminary Euro 2024 squad - as he had not played for England since 2023 - Henderson made his return earlier this year in wins against Albania and Latvia.

  12. Henderson was a 'true captain...on and off the pitch' - Kroespublished at 10:21 British Summer Time

Ajax technical director Alex Kroes said that Jordan Henderson had "meant a great deal to the club" and been key to their qualification for the coming season's Champions League.

The Dutch giants finished second in the Eredivisie last season, blowing a nine-point lead to finish one point behind title-winners PSV Eindhoven.

"Jordan was a true captain for us, both on and off the pitch," said Kroes.

"An international top player who, through his mentality and leadership qualities, made a significant contribution to our qualification for the Uefa Champions League and further development of Ajax’s elite sporting culture.

"Jordan has meant a great deal to Ajax, and we are grateful to him for that. We wish him all the best as he continues his impressive career."

  13. 'My only regret is that we didn't deliver more success'published at 10:08 British Summer Time

Jordan Henderson says it has been "an honour" to play for Eredivisie side Ajax, after joining the Dutch giants in January 2024 following a short stint at Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq.

In a club statement, Henderson wrote: "I would like to express my immense gratitude to everyone associated with Ajax for giving me the opportunity to represent this incredible institution over the past few years.

"To play for this club was an honour in itself. To have the privilege of captaining it was even more so. My only regret is that we didn't deliver more success for the amazing supporters. They deserve to be celebrating major titles again, and I'm sure that time will come soon.

"Due to the tragic events of last week, and the devastating loss of my former team-mate Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, it doesn't feel right at this moment to say or do more than share this brief statement.

"However, I am fully aware that I owe this club, my team-mates and the supporters a fuller and more personal thank you. I will, of course, do that when the time feels more appropriate."

    Ajax

England midfielder Jordan Henderson has been allowed to leave Ajax, the Dutch club has confirmed.

The former Liverpool player was 18 months into a two-and-a-half year contract, which was due to end in June 2026, but Ajax said that their 35-year-old captain had asked to leave a year early.

"The club has cooperated with the player's request to terminate the current employment contract," Ajax said in a statement.

  15. Where do Kudus' goals and assists come from?published at 09:56 British Summer Time

Mohammed Kudus has 22 goal involvements over his two seasons at West Ham, including 13 goals and nine assists.

Interestingly, his assists are evenly split, with four coming from the left of the penalty area and four from the right, with the other from a through ball, showing his ability to play on either flank.

The majority of his goals, however, have come from the right side of the box, and only two from outside the area.

As a West Ham United fan I am disappointed that Kudus is moving on but I fully understand the position that the club find themselves in. I just wonder if Graham Potter has a plan to paper over any cracks that may be left. Kudus on his day is a world-class player but unfortunately last season he didn't live up to his potential and fell short of the required standard. I hope that we can at least invest in young players with potential, who can hopefully deliver from the start of what could be another tricky season ahead.

Mohammed Kudus' versatility makes it unclear as to where exactly he plays.

Left wing, attacking midfielder, right wing and centre forward, Kudus played all four positions for West Ham last season.

Where will he be best suited for Tottenham? Or does Thomas Frank need a utility man?

  19. 'Kudus highly rated by many'published at 09:37 British Summer Time

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Mohammed Kudus is highly rated by many very good judges.

When I spoke to Danny Murphy at the end of last season about players Liverpool should be looking at this summer, he named Kudus as one. The player is sought after - despite being as underwhelming last season as he was electrifying in 2023-24 following a £38m move from Ajax.

He only scored five goals in the most recent campaign, down from 14 the year before, and was often ineffective in the system preferred by head coach Graham Potter, who took charge in January and favours wing-backs over wingers.

Kudus was often utilised up front by Potter and seldom featured wide on the right, arguably his best position, but one in which West Ham already have captain Jarrod Bowen.
