Blues only lost three league games throughout last season in League One - they've had that many in their past five matches in the Championship.
"It's probably a bit of bad luck, a bit of new players coming into the squad, getting adjusted to the style of football Chris [Davies, head coach] wants to play," said Wagner.
"It's recognising that we can't stand still, some adjustments need to be made on our part. We've got to adapt to that.
"Chris has the complete and total confidence of the board. I'm confident the process he is pursuing will pay dividends."
