If Max Verstappen pulls this off, he won't win the race, but it's going to be one of his greatest drives.

Engineer: "Kimi, we are not expecting wear concern on this tyre. You have 12 laps remaining, so best stint to the end, mate."

Antonelli: "I am fighting overheating, mate."

Lando Norris is seven seconds clear of Kimi Antonelli in second, as the Italian's team-mate has to lift and coast from third position.

Drivers are being called by their engineers at every turn at Interlagos as the end nears. Pete Bonnington is trying to give words of encouragment to Kimi Antonelli, who is sitting in second place and on for another rookie podium.

"P2 is on here, Max, assuming you can control the degradation."

If Oscar Piastri has a dice, he needs to roll it soon. The Australiam driver is fifth behind Max Verstappen but he needs to make moves if he is to stay in touch with team-mate Lando Norris in the championship. The 10-second time penalty hasn't helped, obviously.

Can Max Verstappen catch and pass both the Mercedes' and get up to second place? It would extraordinary if he did.

I think even Mercedes didn't expect Red Bull to do that, I think they thought they would be attacking for the position and by the end having to try and overtake Max Verstappen.

Lando Norris leads, Kimi Antonelli is second and George Russell is third. A double podium for Mercedes is on the table but Max Verstappen is gaining on the Silver Arrows.

Engineer: "It's been a fairly vulnerable tyre this one, Max, so do your best."

Verstappen: "Yeah, we have nothing to lose.

The soft tyres are delicate, so Max Verstappen's engineer is giving his driver the heads up. George Russell, who had some hilarious radio messages in Mexico last time out, is also under pressure in third spot and is having a back and forth with his pit wall about brake issues.

"Sixteen laps to the end, we just need the best stint to the end."

Next fight on the bill is Max Verstappen versus Oscar Piastri. The Australian is purple on his new medium tyres but Verstappen has his eyes on chasing down the Mercedes of George Russell for that final podium place.

I'm surprised to not see Red Bull try and extend that medium to the end of the race. They've put the soft tyre on Max Verstappen and can attack forward for that podium, but I'm surprised by that.

Red Bull fire off Max Verstappen with new tyres quick as a flash and the Dutchman comes out behind George Russell, clearing the Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson as he slots into position.

Lawson suddenly finds himself under pressure from the McLaren of Oscar Piastri. Place robbed. Piastri is now fifth, Lawson is in sixth.

Oscar Piastri has overtaken the Haas of Oliver Bearman and is now sixth on the timing tower. Red Bull are getting ready to pit Max Verstappen, which means Lando Norris will retake the lead.

It's a straight fight for the win here. I think Max Verstappen isn't going to make it easy for Lando Norris.

Norris is on a much newer medium tyre, but Verstappen is going to fight hard and force Norris to make mistakes.

What has the end of this Interlagos contest got in store for us? Max Verstappen is seven seconds clear of Lando Norris but the championship leader, aiming for his maiden title, is on fresher rubber.

Engineer: "Something I didn't think I'd say, Max, at the end of the pit lane earlier, you are now the race leader."

Verstappen: "Not bad."

Oscar Piastri is the next McLaren driver in and the Australian is out on mediums in seventh place.

Max Verstappen leads, but on older tyres, Lando Norris is second and Kimi Antonelli is now third.
