    McLaren think the rain will pick up in about four minutes or so, while over at Red Bull, Sergio Perez thinks he should've stayed in the garage to keep the intermediate tyres nice and toasty.

    Carlos Sainz was in tenth place, he was just starting a lap on the intermediates and has had a hefty crash backing into the wall at Turn Two.

    The second red flag of this Sunday qualifying session. The Spaniard thumps the right-hand side of the car into the barriers but is OK. He apologises to his pit wall, however, that looks like a hefty whack.

  11. Piastri goes top on inters

    George Russell takes a spin in the Mercedes but thankfully, he's back on his way in record time. Oscar Piastri adds another purple sector and crosses the line to go top with a 1:25.179 on those intermediates.

    I love the speedway action of the drivers, the amount of times they are opposite locking the whole way through corners, the skill level right now is top tier.

  13. Max Verstappen has gone quickest ahead of Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez but Oscar Piastri has just clocked a purple light in the first sector. The Australian's times are causing more drivers to come into the pits to switch to the green tyres.

    The green intermediates are on for Oscar Piastri and the Australian hits a 1:28.925 to put him third on the timesheets.

  15. The wet tyres are bolted on for the majority of the field - expect for Oscar Piastri, who has opted for the intermediates on his McLaren.

    Alex Albon flags to his engineer that he's probably a bit confused with his assessment on what the run plan should be in these conditions.

    Norris was pushing every lap but just never looked like he was improving and on the final lap just found a few tenths to save his skin. A mighty amount of pressure is now being placed on Lando Norris.

    In these conditions it is so much about getting your tyres in the right working window and gaining some confidence to use the tyre more which gets them back into the window.

  20. Max Verstappen was quickest at the end of that first session, commenting "lovely" when told his final position. The Dutchman has a five-place grid penalty for today's Sao Paulo Grand Prix, so the higher up he can qualify, the better.
