    Time for the RB of Daniel Ricciardo to make a pass on the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg. The Australian is up to P7 now but uh-oh, the stewards have decided to slap him with a five-second time penalty for a false start.

    I can just start to see the colouration of the tarmac through the wet conditions. There is a dry line beginning to form, train tracks on the motorway for them down towards the final corner.

    Daniel Ricciardo's false start is now being investigated by the stewards. The Australian has moved up to eighth place, behind the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg who is still running the wet-weather tyres.

    Still Nico Hulkenberg in the Haas who has stayed out on the extreme wet tyre, everyone else now on the intermediate tyre.

    George Russell is still leading this Canadian Grand Prix by 1.2 seconds from the Red Bull of Max Verstappen. Lando Norris is in third and Oscar Piastri is back in fourth after Kevin Magnussen's pit stop.

    Leclerc: "How much am I losing down the straights?"

    Engineer: "quite a bit."

    Leclerc: "I don't want that sort of answer when I am asking please tell me."

    Engineer: "Half a second."

    With the tarmac as slippery as an ice rink, plenty of cars are running wide and having to cut the corners and rejoin the track. Carlos Sainz flags to his pit wall that this could be a potential issue if drivers aren't aware of what's around them.

    Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo has been noted for a false start.

  10. Lap 8/70

    Haas have decided to call in Kevin Magnussen to change those wet tyres to the intermediates, but it's a slow stop which lasts eight seconds - possibly the decision of the Dane rather than the team - and he rejoins the action in 14th place on intermediates.

    We've been hearing team bosses and engineers say that the wet tyre is better when there is a lot of standing water on the track, as soon as it isn't the intermediate is quicker.

    Well that was a quick party but maybe the party is over for both Haas cars.

    The Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton also needs the sanctuary of the run-off and as he cuts the track, the seven-time world champion goes past Fernando Alonso, but quickly gives the place back to his old McLaren team-mate.

    "People on inters now going faster than people on extreme wets."

  14. Lap 6/70

    Daniel Ricciardo is hanging on to the coat tails of the top 10 in ninth place after his fifth in qualifying yesterday. Charles Leclerc's engineer is back on the blower to say the drivers on inters are now starting to go faster than those runners on the wets.

    Yellow flag in sector two! Logan Sargeant needs the escape road to reverse his Williams and get back onto the track. Green flag, on you go.

    Nico Hulkenberg started all the way down in 17th place but the German is currently quicker than race leader George Russell. The fastest lap stopwatch now pays a visit to his team-mate Kevin Magnussen.

    The two full wet runners of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg are having a brilliant time. It is important for them to take this opportunity, make up as many places as possible because it could start to play against them once the rain eases up.

    The spray is causing drivers all kinds of issues as George Russell leads from Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Nico Hulkenberg in the second Haas is up to eighth and is now hassling Lewis Hamilton for seventh spot.

    Kevin Magnussen's next target is Norris for third...
