This is not the day for rapid lap times for Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari is crawling on the hard tyre and trying to stay away from the notorious Canadian walls.

Charles Leclerc is worrying about being on the slick tyres while the rest of the field run the intermediates. The Ferrari pit wall tries to calm his nerves by saying the rain will be gone in a few laps' time.

We are racing again and Max Verstappen leads the way from George Russell and Lando Norris. Charles Leclerc is back out in 19th place and is running the hard tyres now.

No sign of that rain yet that was coming in three minutes.

Charles Leclerc has come into the pits but the Monegasque man isn't moving. The Ferrari crew standby and for a moment it looks like he is about to retire from the race, but Leclerc carries on with his day after a chat with his engineer.

Norris opted to stay out an extra lap compared to Verstappen, Russell and his team-mate Piastri, and as such pitted a lap later and lost positions.

Why didn't they box Norris? Perhaps not wanting to double stack the two McLarens, but then surely the driver leading the race would take precedence on that.

Esteban Ocon and his Alpine have made their way up to the top 10 but the Frenchman is still on his old intermediates.

They've not done anything about moving that Williams yet which is in a really difficult place there on the exit of Turn Four so we are looking at a relatively long safety car.

And now Lando Norris comes in for another set of intermediates. Where will the Briton came out? It's third place for the McLaren driver, in front of his team-mate Oscar Piastri.

Max Verstappen now leads with George Russell in second.

Sargeant that is his day done, the American in his second season in Williams and increasingly the likelihood of being shown the door at the end of the year is getting higher and higher.

Max Verstappen and George Russell have come in but Lando Norris has stayed out! The Red Bull and the Mercedes are pushing for position to get out of the pit lane, with Verstappen making it onto the track ahead of Russell.

The rest of the pack are on fresh inters, Norris has to make do with his 25-lap old greens...

The Williams is stranded and the safety car is out!

The skies are turning darker and darker as Lando Norris leads in Montreal from Max Verstappen and George Russell.

Logan Sargeant has crashed and the yellow flags are out in sector one at Turn four.

Lightning reactions from Max Verstappen as George Russell was forced across the chicane of Turns 13 and 14, comes back to the race track and straight back to the racing line, forcing Verstappen to cut to the inside.

Behind the top three dog fight, old foes Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are battling for fifth place. The spot is occupied by the Spaniard, but the seven-time world champion has him in his sights.
