McLaren's Oscar Piastri won for the fourth time in six races this year as he beat team-mate Lando Norris in an action-packed Miami Grand Prix.

Both McLaren drivers fought intense battles with early leader Max Verstappen's Red Bull as they moved up to the front of the field.

Piastri, who started fourth, drove a race of clinical excellence to pass both Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli and then Verstappen to assume the lead, before managing his gap to his pursuers to the end.

Norris, who dropped back to sixth on the first lap after running wide while battling for the lead with Verstappen, was also decisive in making up for his earlier misfortune.

Norris ate into Piastri's lead through the second half of the race but the Australian kept him at arm's length.

No rain today but there were still plenty of talking points after an eventful weekend in Miami, with McLaren taking a one-two finish in both the sprint race and main grand prix.

Today's winner Oscar Piastri has now won three races in a row and will head to Imola in two weeks' time with a 16 point lead in the drivers' championship.

Thanks for joining us, folks. Great to have you with us. Guess what's coming next? Another triple-header, this time in Europe. After Imola, it's the glitz and glamour of Monaco followed by the Spanish Grand prix at the end of the month.

We'll be back for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix from 16-18 May. First practice on Friday starts at 12:30 BST.

Lights out on Sunday at Imola is at 14:00 BST.

    See you then!

  3. 'We’re not where we want to be' - Hamiltonpublished at 23:49 British Summer Time

Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton finished in eighth, he told Sky Sports: "Firstly, I really enjoyed the race, we knew it was going to be difficult today starting from 12th, we’re not where we want to be.

"We’re lacking clearly a lot of pace and we’ve lost performance over the past couple of races and we know where it is and we’re just waiting for a fix to regain some of it."

"To be at the back of the top ten is definitely not easy for the whole team. Once I got past the Haas and I got onto the medium tyre I was feeling really optimistic, the car was coming back alive and I was really thinking I had the potential to catch the guys."

"I lost a lot of time behind Charles Leclerc and in that moment I was thinking let’s make a concise decision and not waste time. I’m sure people didn’t like certain topics but you’ve got to understand it’s frustrating, people say way worse things than I say, it was more sarcastic than anything. I’m not frustrated now but we will work internally and we keep pushing."

On sharpening up the team’s strategies: "The way my mind works for example in China where I was clearly holding another car up and I personally don’t want to lose that place but if it means the team can get further ahead, I want that for the team."

"That is why I decided to let Charles past in China for example. Today, I was on a different strategy and a much quicker tyre at the time. Charles was clearly struggling a bit then and it took a long time for everyone to see it but by then it’s too late."

  4. 'As a team we need to do better' - Leclercpublished at 23:45 British Summer Time

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc spoke to Sky Sports on the race and how the strategies played out, he said: "It’s a difficult situation, I think I will unfortunately go for the boring answer and I’m not going to comment too much here.

"It’s obvious today is not the way we want to manage a race, we will discuss internally to make better decisions. There’s no bad feelings for Lewis [Hamilton] absolutely not, it’s just as a team we need to do better and today was a proof of that. For the rest I don’t want to speak more into the details."

On working with the team: "Of course [we can help], it’s our job to do so. I’m doing my best, I’m giving everything I can in order for us to be a better team, for us to have a better car and for us to be better, this is our focus."

  5. Postpublished at 23:42 British Summer Time

Ok, Charles Leclerc is first out to speak to the media. He's been very diplomatic with his words as he chats to Sky Sports but doesn't want to speak to much about the radio messages during the race.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur is next to chat and he thinks the team did a good job with the driver swaps but he can understand the frustrations of Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. He also says the team will be bringing upgrades to the next race at Imola.

  6. Postpublished at 23:38 British Summer Time

There are a few investigations on the boil to keep an eye on. Alpine's Pierre Gasly joins Carlos Sainz with a yellow flag infringement and that last-lap scrap between Sainz and Lewis Hamilton is also being looked at. The Williams and the Ferrari banged wheels as Sainz tried to overtake on the inside for eighth place.

  7. Postpublished at 23:32 British Summer Time

The two drivers we're all waiting to hear from are Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Now, I imagine Hamilton will do his duties but he is darting to New York to co-chair the Met Gala tomorrow - and that is a huge event, so he might keep his answers short and get right out of Miami after today's events.

  8. 'In hot conditions it looks like our race pace is very strong - Stellapublished at 23:28 British Summer Time

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella spoke to Sky Sports on the one-two: "It proves that the car was very competitive today, well done to Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris for exploiting the performance that we have available in the car, especially in hot conditions it looks like our race pace is definitely very strong."

  11. 'To win by over 35 seconds to third is unbelievable'published at 23:16 British Summer Time

McLaren's Oscar Piastri praised the team for the car they've given him. He said: "It's just incredible the hard work that has gone in.

"I remember two years ago here in Miami we were genuinely the slowest team and I think we got lapped twice, to now to have won the grand prix by over 35 seconds to third is an unbelievable result.

"The hard work of every single person here at the track and at the factory as well."

  12. 'I got a good result when it mattered'published at 23:10 British Summer Time

Mercedes’ George Russell finished third in Miami, he said: "I’m really happy to come away with P3, I’ve been struggling this weekend personally and always on the back foot.

"Ultimately when it mattered I got a good result today but well done to McLaren they were just down the road.”

On keeping Max Verstappen behind: "No it’s not [easy] but I was pretty calm and I felt really good in the car to keep Max [Verstappen] behind me.

"I think Lando [Norris] is a bit upset with me because we had a crash on the lego race this morning, I gave him a bit of an injured leg so I don't know if he's going to complain to me about something."

  13. 'I paid the price' - Norrispublished at 23:06 British Summer Time

Lando Norris who finished second in Miami: "I mean it's never the best feeling but the team have done an amazing job, so I can't fault them at all. Good pit stops, great pace.

"We were up the road, so it was a good feeling. Oscar drove well. Max put up a good fight as always and I paid the price. but it's the way it is."

On facing Max Verstappen at Turn Two: "What can I say? If I don't go for it, people will complain. If I go for it, people complain. So you can't win. It is the way it is with Max, it's crash or don't pass.

"You actually get it really right and put him in a perfect position, then you can just about get there. I paid the price for not doing a good enough job today. I'm still happy with second."

  14. 'The car was unbelievable' - Piastripublished at 23:01 British Summer Time

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri wins in Miami after starting in fourth, he said: "I won the race that I really wanted to. Yesterday was a tricky day, qualifying was probably one of my trickiest for the year and to come away with a win still on Sunday is an impressive result.

"Obviously there was a bit of argy-bargy at Turn One that helped me out a little bit. I was aware enough to avoid Max [Verstappen] coming through and from that point onwards I knew I had a good pace advantage and the car was unbelievable.

On controlling the race: "The first sting was really really strong and on the hard stint I was obviously struggling a little bit so it was a good thing that I built that gap in the first stint.

"Towards the end I started to get things a bit more back under control but there’s still definitely some things to work on, but I’m very happy with the win and the points and leave Miami on top."

It's a good podium set-up in Miami, the trophies are beauties, too. The champagne has been popped and after a thorough soaking, just a dribble remains. And here's the post-race pic taken by Zak Brown.

There was silence from Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton on the team radio after the race. Neither driver was in the mood to chat. I hope they've found their voice for the media pen though.

Here comes the top three on to the podium. The Australian national anthem fires up as Oscar Piastri celebrates his fourth win of the season. It's also his sixth career victory - one more than team-mate Lando Norris.

  17. Cooldown chatpublished at 22:49 British Summer Time

Race winner Oscar Piastri is reminiscing during his interview about how slow McLaren were in Miami two years. "I think we got lapped twice," jokes the Australian. And look at them now, winning by a massive margin and leading both championships after six rounds of racing.

Cooldown room time. So, what happened?!" says Piastri as the highlights play. "I would've been in that wall so hard," adds Lando Norris as he watches on.
