  1. Rapid start from Rasmuspublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 20 July

    R. Hoijgaard -8 (3)

A fast start from Rasmus Hojgaard as he makes birdies on the first and second to jump up the leaderboard on eight under.

The Dane is another player not afraid to go low when the wind is down like this.

  2. Mr Consistentpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 20 July

Scottie Scheffler, Li Haotong, Nicolai Hojgaard, Tyrrell Hatton

Scottie Scheffler (68-64-67) is one of only four players to post three rounds in the sixties so far this week.

The others are Li Haotong (67-67-69), Tyrrell Hatton (68-69-68) and Nicolai Hojgaard (69-69-69).

  3. Another fast start for McIlroy?published at 14:18 British Summer Time 20 July

    McIlroy -8 (14:20 BST)

It was an amazing start by Rory McIlroy on moving day with three birdies in four holes having Royal Portrush bouncing.

He'll need more of this today to put the pressure on Scottie Scheffler.

    So you're telling me there's a chance?

Are we clutching at straws a little here? Maybe, but you just never know at the Open Championship - and despite not being the closest challenger on the leaderboard there's a reason why Rory McIlroy might stand the best chance of overhauling Scottie Scheffler today.

Firstly, because he's Rory McIlroy and like it or not his name charging up the leaderboard means more than anyone else.

Secondly, he'll have Royal Portrush roaring him on the whole way and that deafening noise can get to even ice cold players like Scheffler.

And thirdly, perhaps most importantly, he has previous from the 2022 Tour Championship on the PGA Tour when McIlroy came from six behind Scheffler to pip him by a shot.

The key? A fast start as McIlroy hit four birdies in his first seven holes while Scheffler had three bogeys meaning they hit the turn with that six-shot lead down to just one, and from there McIlroy kept his nerve better on the back nine to pinch it.

So if McIlroy starts off like a train today, who knows....

Onto the par-five second, where Tyrrell Hatton has found a fairway bunker off the tee.

An opportune time, then, for Ken Brown to tell you about the sand traps around Royal Portrush.

  7. Scheffler's stats with a major leadpublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 20 July

Anyone thinking Scottie Scheffler going to let his overnight four-shot lead slip?

History suggests not, as his major record when holding the 54-hole lead is imperious.

As the graph below shows, he's actually stretched his lead when ahead after three days.

  8. The best front-runner in the business?published at 14:14 British Summer Time 20 July

Scottie Scheffler has won his past nine tournaments when he has held the outright lead after 54 holes.

The very definition of a strong front-runner.

How are we feeling about that wordplay?

My prediction is Scheffler will win by one of the greatest margins in Open history.

Can Scheffler do a Faldo of 87 and shoot 18 straight pars and still win today?

Unless Scheffler takes an eight on one of the early holes, it will become a Scottie procession to victory.

  11. Birdie for Hattonpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 20 July

    Hatton -9, Schauffele -7 (1)

Tyrrell Hatton knocks in that short birdie putt for the perfect start to his final round. One down, five more shots to make up on leader Scottie Scheffler.

    Xander Schauffele makes par.

  12. Postpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 20 July

    English -8, Gotterup -8

Harris English finds the right fairway bunker and Chris Gotterup the left rough as this American pair get their fourth rounds under way.

Could be a good day for Americans in general due to the lack of wind and Portrush not being as fast and firm as most links courses at The Open, so don't be surprised if one of these two goes low.

Enjoyable scenes at the 17th where the wind is blowing on the players' backs.

Daniel Berger unleashes his drive, it kicks off the slope and trundles all the way down to the green.

Playing in the group in front, Aaron Rai does not know it's coming and Berger's ball rolls straight into his golf bag and rebounds onto the putting surface.

Terrific break for Berger and a wry (Rai?) smile from the Englishman.

  15. Any chance Rory?published at 14:11 British Summer Time 20 July

    McIlroy -8 (14:20 BST)

Rory McIlroy enjoyed his round at Portrush yesterday, will it be more fun today for the Northern Irishman? One thing's for sure, at six shots back he has to swing for the fences and jump out to a fast start.

And when Rory steps on the gas it's usually one heck of a ride.

  16. Don't call it a comeback...published at 14:10 British Summer Time 20 July

    McIlroy -8 (14:20 BST)

Not really sure what that headline means, but I like it. What Rory McIlroy will not like is Scottie Scheffler's lead over him of six strokes heading into the final round.

BUT, McIlroy has won on the PGA Tour from six shots behind, and guess what? He's managed to overhaul a six-shot lead for none other than Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler looks rock solid so far at Portrush, but playing in the group behind McIlroy, if the home hero gets the crowd going the world number one will see it all unfolding in front of him - even he will feel that pressure.

And if there's one player who can make magical things happen on a golf course, it's McIlroy.

    Matt Gault

Yesterday, Rory McIlroy said he was going to unwind by watching another hour of Oppenheimer.

It's clearly left an impression on him as he was bending Harry Diamond's ear about it on the way to the range.

Good film, but not the most obvious option if you're looking to switch the brain off after a long day.

Wow Bob Mac, that was almost an incredible eagle.

Putting from way off the screen at the second, he has flashed it right to the edge of the cup but it just won't topple in.

Can blow that home for birdie.

  20. Different fortunes for Hojgaardspublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 20 July

    R. Hojgaard -7, N.Hojgaard -5 (1)

Differing fortunes for Danish twins Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard - not playing in the same group but just one group apart today.

Rasmus tackles the first hole ahead of his brother and makes a birdie, but Nicolai makes a bogey for a two-shot swing in the Hojgaard family honours trophy.
