    Scheffler -15, Li -10 (3)

Li Haotong is in a fairway bunker on the fourth and all he can do is nudge it about 100 yards. Tough to save par from here.

Scottie Scheffler is in a perfect position with a great angle into the flag - he stares down his approach as it drifts down a slope to within eight feet.

A potential two-shot swing here that would put Scheffler seven shots clear if it happens...

  2. Bogey for McIlroypublished at 15:14 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -8, Fitzpatrick -8 (4)

A huge letdown for the Portrush faithful as Rory McIlroy can't get himself out of jail with that huge par putt so he has to sign for a bogey five here and slip back to eight under.

That's now seven shots off the lead...

    Scheffler -15 (3)

Jordan Spieth shakes hands with Scottie SchefflerImage source, Getty Images

Jordan Spieth has been speaking about Scottie Scheffler, who followed Spieth's path through the University of Texas:

"He doesn't care to be a superstar. He's not transcending the game like Tiger did. He's not bringing it to a non-golf audience necessarily. He doesn't want to go do the stuff that a lot of us go do, corporately, anything like that.

"He just wants to get away from the game and separate the two because I know that he - at one time - felt it was too much, that he was taking it with him.

"Whenever he made that switch, I don't know what it was, but he has hobbies. He's always with his family. They're always doing stuff.

"I think it's more so the difference in personality from any other superstar that you've seen in the modern era and maybe in any sport. I don't think anybody is like him."

Shane Lowry shakes hands with Scottie SchefflerImage source, Getty Images

Shane Lowry believes Scottie Scheffler ought to be spoken about in the same breath at Tiger Woods:

"If Scottie's feet stayed stable and his swing looked like Adam Scott's, we'd be talking about him in the same words as Tiger Woods.

"I just think because it doesn't look so perfect, we don't talk about him like that.

"I think he's just incredible to watch, and his bad shots are really good. That's when you know he's really good."

  5. Hatton slips backpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time

    Hatton -7, Schauffele -8 (5)

Tyrrell Hatton's challenge has hit a stumbling block in the early stages of his final round.

He started so well with a birdie at the first, but he's followed his bogey on two with another at the fifth - again after finding a bunker off the tee.

  6. Postpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -9, Fitzpatrick -8 (3)

Hmm - that's not great from Rory McIlroy with a high swipey cut with his approach landing in some cabbage way off the green, and he just can't get any control on the ball with the chip so it's a long, long putt coming up to save par.

  7. Fowler sets final-round record at Portrushpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time

    Fowler -8 (65)

Rickie Fowler's just brought his Open to a close, and what a day it's been for the 36-year-old.

A brilliant six-under par 65, capped off with a birdie at the 18th and the American heads to the clubhouse at eight under for the tournament.

That's the lowest final round score at Portrush.

The conditions are there for a run today...

  8. Pars for leading grouppublished at 15:08 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -15, Li -10 (3)

One of the benefits that Scottie Scheffler has over the rest of the field when he's in a commanding position like this is he doesn't need to go chasing flags.

On the third, he hits the centre of the green and will have about 30 feet for birdie. Easy two-putt, par.

It's what I grew up watching Tiger Woods doing for so many years. Take the birdies when they come but there's no need for unnecessary risks.

Li Haotong recovers from his bogey on the second with a safe par on three.

  9. Queues forming at the 18th grandstandpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time

We've kept you informed all week with regular grandstand queue updates so here's the latest from the 18th.

I don't know about you but I'm not sure if any of these folk will get a seat up there for the leaders... I reckon those in situ will be nestled in now for the day!

  10. Birdie for Gotteruppublished at 15:06 British Summer Time

    English -9, Gotterup -9 (4)

Brilliant birdie from Chris Gotterup as his second shot lands just off the fourth green 50 feet away, but he manages to find the bottom of the cup for a three.

Harris English also does well just to save par here after a visit to the rough, as he manages to get down in two from just over 100 yards for his four.

  11. Postpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -9, Fitzpatrick -8 (3)

Right then, onto the fourth tee. Rory McIlroy has birdied this hole in the past two days and starts it well enough again, thumping a drive 313 yards and leaving him 183 to the flag.

Matt Fitzpatrick is sneaky long you know and is not far back off the tee, with his drive measured at 294.

Yesterday following Scottie Scheffler you could hear the roars when Rory McIlroy picked up a shot.

Today, the world number one can see it. He was stood on the second fairway waiting to hit his next shot as McIlroy's putt dropped.

  14. Bogey for Fitzpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time

    McIlroy -9, Fitzpatrick -8 (3)

A par for Rory McIlroy in a repeat of the theme from yesterday - a nice enough shot into the green but always at least 30 feet away so it's either make a long bomb or an easy par.

It'd be great golf if he was the one leading by five, but he's not. He has to hit it closer.

Matt Fitzpatrick just couldn't attack this flag with his chip given all the slopes around it so had to just get it on the green and try to make a long one.

    He couldn't so it's a bogey.

  16. DeChambeau continues chargepublished at 14:59 British Summer Time

    DeChambeau -8 (15)

A fantastic day from Bryson DeChambeau continues with a 23-foot putt for birdie on the 15th.

That brings him to eight under for the tournament, and into the top 10.

I'm not sure he would have seen that coming when he was seven over par on Thursday evening...

  17. Bogey for Li stretches Scheffler's leadpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time

    Scheffler -15, Li -10 (2)

A cautious third shot from Scottie Scheffler from in front of the second green.

Leaving it short of the target would have seen it dribble down the slope into more trouble, so he heads for the middle of the green and leaves himself about 25 feet for birdie.

A safe two-putt for par for the three-time major winner.

Li Haotong's bunker shot left him in that little hollow that Scheffler was trying to avoid, but it's a decent putt coming back up the hill.

Five feet left for par - misses left. A bogey that takes the Chinese golfer back to 10 under.

Shane Lowry jokes he wants The Open to return to Royal Portrush next year

The 2019 champion at Royal Portrush wasn't in contention this time around but from watching his final putt on the 18th today, I can tell you he is very, very well loved.

BBC Sport NI's Stephen Watson grabbed a word with him after his final round of 66 that saw him finish on two under for the tournament - and he's keen to see The Open return to the north coast of Northern Ireland very soon.

That's the danger if you try and push too much on this golf course.

If you push a bit too hard it'll roll off the slopes on the greens.

  20. Schauffele sinks long birdie puttpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time

After a couple of safe pars from these two on the third, Xander Schauffele brings the crowd to their feet with a monster putt for birdie on the fourth.

It's a big breaker from the left which dives in to take Schauffele to eight under for the tournament.
