  1. Successive birdies for Hojgaardpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 19 July

    N. Hojgaard -5 (8)

Nicolai Hojgaard has made back-to-back birdies to move to five under - a shot better off than brother Rasmus - and in T12.

Nicolai is playing alongside American Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and is currently a shot better off than him after eight holes.

  2. Second eagle for Schauffelepublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 19 July

    Schauffele -6 (12)

We told you earlier about an eagle for Xander Schauffele... well he's gone and found another!

Par fives are proving easy for the 2024 Open champion - that's birdie, eagle, eagle on them today.

From nowhere, he's into six under and launching a serious defence of his crown.

  3. Westwood on the move... backwardspublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 19 July

    Westwood +1 (9)

Spare a thought for Lee Westwood. Out of the last 17 groups out on the course, he is the only player over par for the Championship.

He's reached the turn in 40 shots after three bogeys and a double, around a solitary birdie on the seventh.

    English -6, MacIntyre -5 (6)

Outstanding par save from Harris English at the sixth.

That was 14 feet and he popped it in confidently.

  5. Wonder what happened to those guys?published at 16:28 British Summer Time 19 July

    Parry -3 (67)

    Jonathan Bradley
BBC Sport NI senior journalist at Royal Portrush

John Parry's hole-in-one at the 13th earlier isn't the Englishman's only memorable moment in Northern Ireland.

Just up the road at Royal County Down, he was part of Great Britain and Ireland's Walker Cup team in 2007.

There wasn't a bad collection of amateurs on show that week... Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Billy Horschel and Webb Simpson were on the victorious American team.

Joining future Masters champion Danny Willett on the GB&I squad was some kid named Rory McIlroy.

    Scheffler -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (4)

Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick tidy up for two-putt pars on the fourth and remain in a share of the lead at 10 under par, one clear of Li Haotong.

  7. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 19 July

    McIlroy -6 (8)

Another par for Rory McIlroy - a brilliant drive followed by a so-so wedge in and a nice aggressive putt from 40 feet that just curled away from the hole.

A confident four footer secures par and there's a big roar from the crowd as they knew he had to make that - and perhaps to pump him up a bit as the steam has just gone out of his round a bit recently.

    Scheffler -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (3)

The psychology of playing with someone like Scottie Scheffler is fascinating, particularly when you are close on the scoreboard like Matt Fitzpatrick is.

Do you acknowledge he's there or effectively ignore him?

Obviously, you're aware of his score but how do you stop that affecting you?

And do you share your wine gums?

  9. Birdie for Hattonpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 19 July

    Hatton -6, R Hojgaard -4 (5)

Tyrrell Hatton, having driven the fifth green, judges a 70-footer for eagle perfectly to leave a tiddler for his first birdie of the day.

Just a lull in the birdie action so here's a few pictures from around Royal Portrush because, well, they're just epic.

Links golf is just the best isn't it?

    Scheffler -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (3)

About 160 yards left for Scottie Scheffler from the middle of the fourth fairway - he's on line but probably one club too much and he'll have a 40-foot birdie putt.

Matt Fitzpatrick, who has now removed his jacket to reveal a polo shirt, is in a similar position and sends his approach to within 25 feet for a three.

  12. MacIntyre bounces backpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 19 July

    English -6, MacIntyre -5 (5)

Bob MacIntyre will be feeling a bit sunnier now having birdied the spectacular par-four fifth.

It's a driveable hole and he did have an unlikely eagle putt, but tucked it in close and nailed his birdie putt.

    Back to five under.

Up there on that hill are a dozen or so people who are working at the place where Rory McIlroy is staying this week (the white house to the left).

It's just off the right of the fourth fairway and is an 'annexe' of a bigger property that I'm sure a few more of the players are calling home.

I had the privilege of having a mooch round them a few months ago, when they were building sites.

They have been built because there was a perceived lack of high-quality accommodation in the area when The Open last came into town in 2019.

Thanks for the pic to Graeme Storm, who is out with John Murray and following McIlroy round today for BBC Radio 5 Live.

Enjoying Matt Fitzpatrick's technique of assessing putts. The Englishman drops as if about to do a burpee, then lies prone on his front as he tries to gauge the break.

Not something to try while wearing those brilliant* white trousers a lot of these lads seem to favour.

*brilliant as in bright, rather than terrific

  16. Superb par save from Schefflerpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 19 July

    Scheffler -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (3)

Scottie Scheffler's tee shot to the par three looks mighty good - but it just takes a couple of extra rolls to nip down a gully off the green. It could so easily have been eight feet away for birdie.

His first putt is too strong and he's probably got 10 feet to come back for par... but he makes it to stay at 10 under alongside Matt Fitzpatrick, who holes from three feet for his par.

The media liaison officers have been helpful, knowledgeable and clear with instruction all week.

They know all the best vantage points around the course, so we try to shadow them.

Today, I am enjoying the company of Anthony - or 'Smudge' as he prefers.

His first gig was the 2003 Open when Ben Curtis won. He's only missed three since.

His favourite experience? Having a front seat for Tiger's win at Hoylake in '06.

  18. Johnson and Mickelson finish roundspublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 19 July

Two former Masters champions have just wrapped up their rounds at Portrush.

Dustin Johnson has carded a tidy 67 to take him to four under par going into Sunday.

It's not been as enjoyable a Saturday for Phil Mickelson, who topped off a rollercoaster round with a triple bogey seven on the 17th and a bogey at the 18th. He finishes five over.

  19. 'McIlroy will be disappointed with par'published at 16:12 British Summer Time 19 July

    McIlroy -6, Smith -2 (7)

    Graeme Storm
Two-time European Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

He'll be really disappointed not to make a birdie here.

You can't afford not to make a birdie here on this par five.

  20. Just a parpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 19 July

    McIlroy -6, (7)

Rory McIlroy misses the green at the seventh short and left but it's not a bad chip from there.

He tries to send one high to stop it close but it's a touch on the clumsy side and he leaves 11 feet when anything inside six was the target.

It's still a good putt but just swipes across the front of the hole and that's 'just' a par five here - which will feel like a dropped shot in his position.
