A picture of a broken umbrella in front of a course map sign

I spotted this on my way off the Royal Portrush links at about 10pm last night.

It struck me as a metaphor for the broken dreams of the 86 players that didn't make the halfway cut, while also being a reminder of the heavy rain that lashed down on Friday afternoon.

There were maybe three really heavy downpours for the later wave to contend with, of which our leader Scottie Scheffler and second-placed Matt Fitzpatrick dealt with so admirably.

Just 70 players left standing. Will anyone emerge from the pack?

    Volunteers assemble!

The biggest names in the sport are the star attractions, but an event like this couldn't happen without the hoards of volunteers.

Here, a group of marshals get their final instructions before heading out onto the course.

    Teamwork makes the dream work.

Welcome golf fans, it's moving day at The Open!

Scottie Scheffler moved to the front of the pack yesterday and it's hard to see him moving backwards today, but can anyone catch the world number one?

Matt Fitzpatrick goes out with Scheffler in the final group today as he looks for his second major while Tyrrell Hatton and Robert MacIntyre are lurking just behind and will have plenty of support firing them on.

And talking of support, Royal Portrush will be desperate to see Rory McIlroy make a move - he's spotting Scheffler seven shots heading into the weekend, but once he gets on a run...

That and the usual chat about weather, Shane Lowry's penalty and the pure beauty of links golf to keep you entertained today so don't go anywhere!
