It's that distance Rory doesn't find overly comfortable.

    McIlroy -12 (17)

Rory McIlroy is acres away from this 18th flag - about 70 feet and he's going uphill as well. I'm not sure putter is enough club for this one!

It's a great effort though, especially for pace as it's about pin high where he finishes, with about four feet left for par.

    Spaun -12, Cauley -9, Glover -10 (17)

So on to the last for JJ Spaun - the second hardest hole on the course this week.

After surviving the daunting tee shot on 17, he's got himself another to navigate.

If Rory doesn't win this, there will be more scar tissue to add to plenty, as he heads to the first major championship of the year.

  5. Spaun saves par at 17published at 23:00 Greenwich Mean Time

    Spaun -12, Cauley -9, Glover -10 (17)

"Go, go, go!" JJ Spaun is urging his ball to get over the lip on the 17th green and trundle down to the hole.

That it does, it's beautifully judged from the American and he's left himself two-and-a-half feet for par. In it goes.

So close for Lucas Glover to reaching -11 with his birdie putt he's on his haunches. Some comeback from him this evening.

Bud Cauley gets himself a birdie though.

Slight mis-hit to come up that far short for Rory. Could it prove costly for him?

    McIlroy -12 (17)

181 yards left for Rory McIlroy but his effort balloons up into the sky and lands well short, before then also rolling backwards even further away.

Chasing a birdie, he's now got work to do for par.

  8. Bhatia & Walker sign for 70spublished at 22:55 Greenwich Mean Time

    Bhatia -10 (70), Walker -9 (70)

Akshay Bhatia lips out on 18 for a birdie that would have taken him to 11 under and set a good target for the rest - but his putter just went cold after the weather delay.

Bhatia has played brilliantly though, very attacking and gave himself plenty of chances - with a warmer putter it could have been a very different story.

We've seen players hole from there before on the 17th. It's a lengthy putt with a huge break in it. I remember Martin Kaymer holing from there the year he won it and Eddie Pepperell the year he finished third.

  10. Postpublished at 22:53 Greenwich Mean Time

    Bhatia -10, Walker -9 (17)

Lovely lag putt from Danny Walker on 18 and that's a tap-in par to complete a wonderfull tournament for the PGA Tour rookie - who remember only got intothe tournament Thursday morning when Jason Day withdrew.

  11. Postpublished at 22:53 Greenwich Mean Time

    Spaun -12, Caulay -8, Glover -10 (16)

    On the green.

A sigh of relief from JJ Spaun but it's rolled away from the hole and he will have a stinker of 45 feet to come back.

What he'd give for his playing partners tee shots as Lucas Glover and Bud Caulay both land nicely within birdie distance.

  12. Postpublished at 22:52 Greenwich Mean Time

    McIlroy -12 (17)

Fairway wood for Rory McIlroy off the last and it's a ripper, just the right amount of draw around the bend of the water and he's bang in the middle of the fairway.

  13. Spaun draws level with McIlroypublished at 22:48 Greenwich Mean Time

    Spaun -12, Glover -10 (16)

In it goes from JJ Spaun and he's tied the lead.

Off he walks to the 17th tee.

How will he approach this infamous little hole?

He's followed by Lucas Glover who has found another birdie too.

Two shots back with two to go.

  14. Just a parpublished at 22:48 Greenwich Mean Time

    McIlroy -12 (17)

That fringe grass just gets in Rory McIlroy's way as he tries to make a big birdie on 17 - perhaps he should have gone with a fairway wood from there like we've seen Justin Rose do so many times.

So it's just a par and he's about to lose the outright lead and be joined by JJ Spaun...

  15. Postpublished at 22:47 Greenwich Mean Time

    Bhatia -10, Walker -9 (17)

Danny Walker almost finds the water off the 18th tee - and when his ball clings to dry land he then has to cling to dry land as he's stood right on the edge of the water.

He keeps his balance though and finds the green.

  16. Postpublished at 22:46 Greenwich Mean Time

    Spaun -11 (15)

I misread where JJ Spaun's ball ended up and, rather than in the rough, he's actually found a nice patch of grass off the fairway.

Oh and would you look at that, he's rolled it in super tight and will have a tap-in birdie.

That's to go level with McIlroy!

  17. Postpublished at 22:45 Greenwich Mean Time

    Cauley -8 (15)

The drama continues over on 16 but not with JJ Spaun.

Rather, it's playing partner Bud Cauley who in a lapse of concentration goes and steps on Lucas Glover's ball.

I think he was looking over at Rory McIlroy's tee shot on 17!

  18. Postpublished at 22:44 Greenwich Mean Time

    Kat Downes
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

Bud Cauley was too busy watching Rory McIlroy's tee shot on the 17th and he treads on the ball of Lucas Glover on the 16th, squashing it into the Sawgrass turf.

    S W Kim -1 (68)

Amid all this tension, just soak up this moment of pure joy from 2017 champion Si Woo Kim a little earlier.

How about this for a way to finish your round?

He's going to have a 12-14 footer up the hill. It's cosied up to the collar of rough but he'll be happy as he walks up to the green.
