Summary

  1. Time for TGL?published at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Hopefully we'll get it boxed off tonight, but if we don't, we'll be back tomorrow, when the TGL semi-finals are set to start.

That'll include the likes of Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Tommy Fleetwood and Rickie Fowler in action.

Hopefully they'll have time to get from TPC Sawgrass down to Palm Beach Gardens 300 miles south where TGL is played.

Good job Rory McIlroy's Boston Common side did not make it through...

  2. Play to resumepublished at 20:26 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Play resuming at 21:15 GMT. Practice facilities have been opened

  3. Postpublished at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Be more annoying to have to wait until the morning though I suppose.

  4. Hoge-ing the lead?published at 20:22 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

    Hoge -10 (17)

If and when we resume, American Tom Hoge is about to set the clubhouse lead after a sensational round that has seen him pick up six shots so far.

He's got a 17-foot birdie putt at 18 to move to 11 under for the week and head inside feeling very satisfied with his day's work.

Must be pretty annoying having to come back out to take just one - or two - putts.

You've got choice at the moment about which live text to follow on the BBC Sport website - either us or the Leicester City v Manchester United game.

You can either sit and wait for something - anything! - to happen to alleviate the boredom or you can stay right here with us!

  6. Next update at 20:30 GMTpublished at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

    From the PGA Tour website:

Update, 4 p.m. ET (20:00 GMT): Final-round play remains suspended as electricity remains in the area around TPC Sawgrass. The next weather update will come at 4:30 p.m (20:30)

  7. Postpublished at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

This is taking me back to English classes and Waiting for Godot.

  8. Postpublished at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Still waiting for the 20:00 GMT update by the way.

  9. 'Going to be close' - Horschelpublished at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Ponte Vedra native Billy Horschel ought to know what he's talking about and he's just posted this on X:

"Going to be close. Right now I’d say 50/50. Lightning is what’s keeping them from going back out. Keep hearing thunder at my house which close to TPC.

"My guess is they have to be playing again by 530 (21:30 GMT). 2 hours left of golf."

  10. Postpublished at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Let's hope this 20:00 GMT update brings positive news, otherwise I might be forced into watching Ten Pound Poms on BBC One, or Who Wants to be a Millionaire

  11. Latest leaderboardpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

    Leader: -12 McIlroy (11)

    Selected: -11 Spaun (10); -10 Hoge (17), Walker (12), Bhatia (12); -9 Cauley (10); -8 MacIntyre (14), Cantlay (12)

  12. The rain has stoppedpublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Television pictures are showing that it's looking brighter over Sawgrass and it's stopped raining!

But, there is no firm news on a resumption. The next announcement will be at 20:00 GMT.

Officials remain confident that play will resume and the tournament will be finished today. It gets dark around 19:30 local time, 23:30 GMT. I reckon, if they got a wriggle on, there's a little over two hours of play left.

  13. If it goes to a play-offpublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

While we wait for the 19:30 GMT update, and given it's quite a congested leaderboard, it's worth looking at what happens if there is a tie for the lead after 72 holes...

A bit like at The Open, the lowest aggregate score over three play-off holes will decide the winner.

The holes are the 16th, 17th and 18th.

And if there is still a tie after those, it goes to sudden death, starting on the 17th. If still tied, we go down 18 again. And if still tied at that point, we're back to 16, and then 17 and 18 until we find a winner.

  14. JT all-in on buddy Budpublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

    Cauley -9 (10)

Here's the interview with Justin Thomas who is really, really hoping his old roommate Bud Cauley can win the Players Championship tonight.

  15. 'I would do some really, really weird things for Bud to win'published at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

    -9 Cauley (10)

Bud Cauley suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung in a 2018 car crash. In 2020, complications following those rib injuries forced him to miss four years of golf.

It would be a huge story if he could somehow get over the line at Sawgrass, and close friend Justin Thomas is desperate for his buddy to win.

"I would do some really, really weird things for Bud to win today," said Thomas.

"I probably want it too bad, I was like a nervous parent last night, I just want him to play well so bad because I know how bad he wants it and it's a huge stage, it's a big, big moment.

"He didn't get off to the start he would have wanted but he's right there."

  16. Spieth en-Jord a bad daypublished at 19:14 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

    Spieth +4 (78)

Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth had a promising first round on Thursday - albeit with its usual dash of mayhem, eagles, double bogeys and everything in between.

However, he has got progressively worse since then and today carded a six-over-par 78 with zero birdies to brighten his round.

Not the warm-up for the Masters he would have hoped for.

  17. Fowl round for Rickiepublished at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

    Fowler +10 (13*)

    Rickie FowlerImage source, Getty Images

The 2015 champion Rickie Fowler is decked in his usual Sunday orange but is second-last as he trudges around Sawgrass.

It was truly miserable for him yesterday when he shot 10 over par to tumble out of contention.

It's been a touch better today - he's five over through 12 holes - but that still leaves him at +10 for the tournament.

  18. Next update at 19:30 GMTpublished at 19:05 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

Hearing from our man Iain out in Florida that the next update is in 30 minutes.

It's got to be tricky for the officials who have to make the decisions but hopefully a bit more clarity in the next message.

  19. Postpublished at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

  20. Breaking news...published at 18:58 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March

"PGA Tour officials are closely monitoring the weather and play is expected to resume later this afternoon.

"Updates regarding resumption of play and gate reopening times will be shared via The Players Championship social channels and website."
