  1. Postpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 13 June

    Koepka +1, Lee +9, Thomas +10 (13*)

Brooks Koepka drops another shot, his fourth in five holes after playing ping pong across the par-five fourth hole.

There's a shot back for Min Woo Lee, who lasers his third into four feet but you'd suspect that the Australian and JT will need at least three or four birdies to have any sort of chance of making the cut.

  2. Rahm misses birdie chancepublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 13 June

    Rahm +3, Spieth +4, Johnson +7 (13)

One birdie for Jon Rahm almost brings two, but after sending his tee shot on 13 within seven feet, the Spaniard sends his birdie try just wide.

  3. Hatton makes eaglepublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 13 June

    Hatton +2 (12)

Brilliant! Tyrrell Hatton is smiling with his arms aloft after chipping in for an eagle three on the 12th.

He aims well left and allows the ball to gather on the downward slope towards the hole - it keeps going on and on and on, and then drops.

    Hatton back to two over.

  4. Scottie slips back againpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 13 June

    Hovland -1, Morikawa +3, Scheffler +5 (12*)

Scottie Scheffler slips back to five over after having to dig out of the Church Pews bunker then only being able to hit his approach to 30 feet from just 60 yards away - just showing how tough some flags are today.

He's back looking over his shoulder at the cut line.

Viktor Hovland finds the fairway on the third, then plays a no-risk approach to 40 feet and gets down in two nicely for a par - very sensible play from the Norwegian coming off the back of that double bogey on the last.

  5. Another Rasmus now rollingpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 13 June

    Neergaard-Petersen -1 (8*)

There's another Danish Rasmus up there on the leaderboard - as Neergaard-Petersen has made two birdies in four holes to erase his two early bogeys and level up his card for the day.

You'd imagine he'd bite your hand off to end the day where he started it - on one under par - but actually having made an eagle and played the front nine in three under yesterday maybe he'll fancy picking up a shot or two?

  6. Birdies galore...published at 16:23 British Summer Time 13 June

    Rahm +3, Spieth +4, Johnson +7 (12)

What is it they say about London buses?

This group had gone through the first 11 holes without registering a birdie, then Jon Rahm's sensational approach and a brilliant chip from Jordan Spieth set up birdie chances for the pair on the par-five 12th - which both players take.

That early trip to the bunker costs Dustin Johnson a shot though, ending his run of 10 straight pars.

  7. A rollercoaster for Rasmuspublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 13 June

    Hojgaard E (9*)

Rasmus Hojgaard made back-to-back birdies to drag himself into the picture at one under, but he's just made a bogey on 18 and he slips back to level par for the tournament.

He's played the back nine at Oakmont in one under though with three birdies and two bogeys, and that's not too shabby for the Dane.

  8. Scheffler fumingpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 13 June

    Hovland -1, Morikawa +1, Scheffler +4 (11*)

Scottie Scheffler is usually the coolest cucumber on the course, but he's positively raging (for him) after his tee shot on three spears directly left and flies into the Church Pews bunker.

A roar of anguish is followed by a "gosh, dang it" outburst, which is about as animated as Scheffler gets out on the golf course.

Scheffler is usually so laid back - there's more life in an urgent note, as my mum would describe him.

  9. Postpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 13 June

    Niemann +4 (9*)

A very inventive shot from Chile's Joaquin Niemann, who uses the toe end of his putter to send his ball from the fringe to within a couple of feet of the 18th hole (his ninth of the day).

Niemann has been one of the star performers on the LIV Tour and he'll be hoping to translate his success into one of the majors sooner rather than later.

  10. Par for Burnspublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 13 June

    Burns -2 (12*)

Sam Burns gives himself another birdie look on the third hole, his 12th. He really fancies this as well. About a dozen feet, a touch right-to-left.

A bit giddy there Sam. Hit through the break and now has a testy four-footer coming back to save par. Holed.

  11. Scottie scrapping to make the cutpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 13 June

    Hovland -1, Morikawa E, Scheffler +4 (11*)

It might be going slightly overboard this early in the day, but Scottie Scheffler will know full well that hovering around five or six over would make for a nervy wait this afternoon.

And so he's fighting to take that out of the equation, with a birdie on the second moving him back up to four over.

  12. Double for Viktorpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 13 June

    Hovland -1, Morikawa E, Scheffler +5 (11*)

And just like that....two shots gone for Viktor Hovland thanks to just one bad decision, one slip of the mind from US Open mode to everyday PGA Tour mode which is full-on attack.

Trying to bite off too much from the rough has really cost him, when just a chop out sideways will likely have cost him a shot but probably takes six out of the equation.

It just shows how tough Oakmont is mentally, it's always there waiting, for just a glimmer of players letting their guards down, and as soon as they do - bang - a punch to the guts.

  13. Postpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 13 June

    Rahm +4, Spieth +5, Johnson +6 (11)

    Dustin JohnsonImage source, Getty Images

You would have got a good price on Dustin Johnson being the best-placed of this group at the end of the second round but, I tell you what, there's a fair chance that might happen.

Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth are both five over for the day, while DJ has made 10 straight pars after a bogey on the first.

Saying that - he's just stuck his tee shot on the par-five 12 into the left rough. Or maybe even the bunker. Trouble.

  14. Double bogey for Rahmpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 13 June

    Rahm +4, Spieth +5, Johnson +6 (11)

Jon Rahm is simmering right now.

His tee shot on 11 was not far off the mark but ended up in trouble. He then played a decent chip from the back of the green with his third but it just caught a downslope before settling and ended up 25 feet from the hole.

The par putt back flies about five feet past and the bogey putt drifts wide too.

He's not really played a bad shot on that hole and yet he's writing a double-bogey six on his scorecard. Oakmont in a nutshell.

  15. Postpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 13 June

    Hovland -3, Morikawa E, Scheffler +5 (10*)

A missed fairway = more trouble for Viktor Hovland, especially as this time he gets too aggressive with his escape from the rough, and ends up just finding the bunker further down the right hand side of the second.

He has to escape sideways from the sand and then plays on to the green with his fourth but still leaves 30 feet if not more just to make a bogey.

    Shots going begging here.

  16. Postpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 13 June

    Koepka E (12*)

Brooks Koepka drops in a six footer to save par on the tricky third hole.

A couple of players have elected to fire their tee shots down the adjacent fourth fairway to give a better angle of approach into a green that slopes, severely, from back to front. Anything coming up short of the hole is likely to tumble back off the putting surface.

But Brooks plays it in traditional fashion. Fairway finder off the tee, green in regulation, two putts.

  17. What will the US Open cut be?published at 15:55 British Summer Time 13 June

    US OpenImage source, Getty Images

As always, the top 60 players (and ties) after the completion of the second round will go through to the weekend to play for the US Open title, and the rest will go home.

It's very early on in the second round with half the field yet to go out, but as it stands right now there are 67 players at four over or better that would make the cut - if the round ended now.

That means Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth and Tony Finau (+5) would all miss the cut right now.

A huge amount of golf still to play and it will most likely be higher than that so it's not quite panic statons yet - but those guys will just start to be feeling the heat.

  18. Postpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 13 June

    Rahm +2, Spieth +5, Johnson +6 (10)

This trio all made par on the 10th but Jon Rahm has found trouble off the 11th tee. The ball is well below his feet but his lie in the long grass is just about good enough for him to launch his second shot to the back of the green.

Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth is in a great spot in the middle of the fairway. "No, no, no, no!" he screams after making contact, thinking there's too much on it, but he's on the short grass.

Dustin Johnson, from a similar position, almost spins his ball back in for an eagle two but he'll get a decent look at a birdie chance.

  19. (More) Bouncebackabilitypublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 13 June

    Burns -2 (11*)

The second hole is a definite birdie chance today. Only 350 yards so most players are hitting half wedges into the green. Sam Burns takes full advantage, knocking his second inside six feet from 80 yards.

And he strokes his ball into the centre of the cup.

  20. Another bogey puts Scheffler outside cut linepublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 13 June

    Hovland -3, Morikawa E, Scheffler +5 (10*)

More scrappy stuff from Scottie Scheffler, first off that bad mistake to land his second 80 feet short and then taking three to get down from there seeing him have to write down another bogey on the card.

Scheffler slips to five over and if the round ended right now he'd miss the cut! Still a long way to go but that'll be food for thought.
