    The first of two Welsh players in the field, Lydia Hall, gets a big cheer from the home crowd as her name is announced on the first tee.

    Hall knows this course like the back of her hand, having been a member here for seven years before turning professional.

    She told us yesterday she expects the winning score come Sunday evening to be around 10 under par.

    AIG Women's Open 2025

    On Wednesday, it was announced that BBC Sport has signed a new multi-year agreement with The R&A, securing broadcast rights for The AIG Women's Open from 2025 to 2027.

    The deal guarantees free-to-air access for UK audiences, with coverage spanning radio commentary and coverage on Radio 5 Live, 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds, digital clips across the BBC Sport website, app and social media platforms, as well as TV highlights on BBC Two and iPlayer.

    A wayward tee shot from Charley Hull at the second costs her in blustery conditions at the second hole.

    Hull eventually taps in for a double-bogey six on the par four.

    Minjee Lee capitalises on a big drive and putts in from five feet to make her first birdie, as does Jeeno Thitikul to cancel out her bogey from the first.

    There are 42 players out on the course right now and only seven are under par.

    Of those, three have won major titles already in 2025 - Chevron Championship winner Mao Saigo, US Women's Open champion Maja Stark and Evian Championship winner Grace Kim are all one under par.

    Leading the way are South Korean duo Somi Lee and Dongeun Lee, who are two under par through seven and nine holes respectively.

    England's Charley Hull has started her bid to win a first major, and is in exalted company with her playing partners for the opening round.

    Hull's grouping includes three-time major winner Minjee Lee and world number two Atthaya 'Jeeno' Thitikul.

    Hull teed off a few moments ago on the par-four first hole.

    Sophia Popov, the 2020 Women's Open champion, was given the honour of hitting the first tee shot of the 2025 tournament at 06:30 BST.

    It's been a tough front stretch for the 32-year-old, who has bogeyed five of her first eight holes.
