    Henley/Scheffler A/S Hovland/MacIntyre (13)

"Get in the bunker" screams a delightful American fan in the crowd when Robert MacIntyre hits his tee shot to the par-three 14th.

But the Scotsman almost sticks it in the hole! What a shot.

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Hatton/Rahm 2UP (14)

Xander Schauffele's drive hits off the hospitality unit on the 15th. In the rough but playable.

Tyrrell Hatton hits his approach hole high on the left.

    Pressure on Patrick Cantlay here.

  3. 'Faultless golf all the way round'published at 15:57 BST 27 September

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 3&2 (F)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live at Portrush

It shows that even those two, the quality of golf they’ve played so far, nerves still affect anybody.

And they’ve played faultless golf all the way round. A couple of little chinks down the stretch.

Rory has just been brilliant this week.

“Rory, you like Long Island? Thumbs up or thumbs down,” asks one punter.

That grabs his attention and he flashes a smile and a thumbs up, naturally.

“Tommy, well love you on Monday,” says another in the hope Fleetwood will miss the match-winning putt.

Rory turns round with a solid double fist pumping to a near silent crowd - not many Europeans here right now. Fleetwood puffs out his cheeks and buries his head in Rory’s embrace.

  5. Point on the board for Europe!published at 15:56 BST 27 September

With Europe in close, you feel Collin Morikawa has to make his putt to keep them in this... but he can't.

It is all on the putter of Tommy Fleetwood now to seal the victory... and he absolutely can!

It got a little nervy at the end but that is the first point of the day for Europe.

  6. USA level!published at 15:55 BST 27 September

    Henley/Scheffler A/S Hovland/MacIntyre (13)

The momentum continues to build for the home side and it must be said that a lot of it is due to Europe just being a bit sloppy, maybe taking their eyes off the ball a bit after building up healthy leads.

Viktor Hovland's wedge shot just wasn't good enough and Russell Henley dispatches a simple putt left to him by Scottie Scheffler and the match is all square with the USA team holding all the momentum in the match.

  7. Postpublished at 15:53 BST 27 September

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 2UP (15)

With their tails up, Harris English hits his approach to around eight feet from the pin.

Pressure once again swings back to Europe and there is a bit of noise and jeers from the American crowd.

Rory McIlroy has some choice words in response as he has to step off his shot.

But that is one way to quieten them!

The Northern Irishman hits a superb approach to give Tommy Fleetwood and excellent look at birdie.

  8. Postpublished at 15:47 BST 27 September

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 2UP (15)

Straight down the middle of the fairway from Collin Morikawa.

There looks to be a spring in the step of this American pair now as they try and turn this second match around.

Not quite the same confidence for Europe as Tommy Fleetwood's drive just drifts right.

    Advantage USA.

  9. Halved in threepublished at 15:47 BST 27 September

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Hatton/Rahm 2UP (14)

Tyrrell Hatton from seven feet. Pretty straight...

Rolls it in. That had some pace on it. He clearly decided to take any little bit of break out of that by ramming it in the back of the hole.

Patrick Cantlay now. This has grown in length a few inches after Hatton holed!

But he makes no mistake. Halved in hard-working threes.

  10. Postpublished at 15:46 BST 27 September

    Henley/Scheffler v Hovland/MacIntyre 1UP (12)

Both teams in the bunker on the par-five 13th so it's just a lay-up each and now a wedge-off competition between Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland.

  11. Postpublished at 15:44 BST 27 September

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Hatton/Rahm 2UP (13)

Here's Jon Rahm. Does go for the wedge for this shot from the fringe but that is a bit shy. A surprise.

Xander Schauffele, also with his sand wedge, gets it to five feet. A bit stabby but he was up against the collar a bit so had to get steep on it.

US - likely three. Europe - work to do.

  12. Bedlam by the 16thpublished at 15:43 BST 27 September

    Peter Scrivener
BBC Sport senior journalist at Bethpage

‘Oh Bryson DeChambeau’ rings out from round the back of the 16th green after his approach shot puts them in pole position.

‘What does brown do for you’ is among the bizarre barbs aimed at Fitzy from the ‘notoriously noisy’ New Yorkers.

Bryson wonders over to the fans who greet him with his song and he revels in it, fist pumping and demanding more from the fans. Got to feel a bit for Cam Young mind who is being largely ignored. Although he finally gets a chant.

As Bryson is doing TV interviews another roar rings out and everyone turns to the big screen to see Collin Morikawa celebrating on the 15th green.

A good couple of minutes for the US.

It was a fantastic effort. They’re fighting back.

They had that glimpse from the Europeans two holes back and that’s just given them some energy heading into this final stretch.

  14. Two in a row for USApublished at 15:42 BST 27 September

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 2UP (15)

It's a slim chance, but it is chance for Rory McIlroy to wrap this match up... but he can't take it.

If the USA are to have a chance in this match, Harris English needs to make this 17-footer.

    And he does!

Wow. That is two holes in a row for the Americans and suddenly things are looking less comfortable for Europe with three holes still to play.

  15. A chink in Europe's armour?published at 15:42 BST 27 September

This leaderboard still looks healthy for Luke Donald - but the crowd are up here at Bethpage, and the red army are making inroads.

    Leaderboard. One red, three blue
  16. Postpublished at 15:40 BST 27 September

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Hatton/Rahm 2UP (13)

Tyrrell Hatton is half a club short with his shot into the par-three 13th. It spins back onto the fringe.

Now Patrick Cantlay. Very similar result.

Likely that they will putt both of those, 'though Jon Rahm may fancy the wedge.

  17. First blood USA!published at 15:39 BST 27 September

    4&2 DeChambeau/Young v Fitzpatrick/Aberg (F)

The USA strike first with another loose shot from Ludvig Aberg doing the damage - the Swede has just been off colour this morning so I'd expect him to sit out this afternoon and prepare for the singles.

Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Young will surely be back out this afternoon - most likely playing together again in the fourballs after combining beautifully in these foursomes.

  18. Postpublished at 15:37 BST 27 September

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 3UP (14)

Perhaps a bit too much adrenaline running through the veins of Harris English standing on the tee of the 15th.

A bit wild from the American as he sends his shot well left and into the patrons.

Rory McIlroy can't take advantage as he also sends his into the rough on the opposite side.

Superb from Collin Morikawa as he digs it out and gets a favourable bounce to the back of the green.

Good reply from Tommy Fleetwood, however, as he lands his just a couple of feet further.

  19. Europe stay two uppublished at 15:35 BST 27 September

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Hatton/Rahm 2UP (13)

Patrick Cantlay finds perfect pace but that came off his putter face right. And leaves an undesirable five footer for their five.

Tyrrell Hatton, from probably half the distance Cantlay had, smacks his putter with his hand after it tails off to the left.

Bit of a chance that. Was a straightforward putt. And Xander Schauffele just about knocks in that five footer. It did a lap of the cup before dropping in.

  20. Scottie's back!published at 15:33 BST 27 September

    Henley/Scheffler v Hovland/MacIntyre 1UP (11)

Well, if Europe have helped Scottie Scheffler find his form they only have themselves to blame, after that bogey on the last seemed to fill the world number one with confidence.

As he shows by hitting a trademark magic iron shot on the 12th that he sticks to a couple of feet and will surely be given for a three.

Viktor Hovland responds pretty well though with a fine approach of his own that's only about five feet away - it just looks ordinary next to Scheffler's effort but following that shot and playing away from home it's really not.
