Europe build lead on feisty second day at Ryder Cup

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Hatton/Rahm 1UP (11)

I thought we might see Tyrrell Hatton this afternoon in the fourballs but I'm now not sure. He isn't anywhere near his best, in all honesty.

Gets lucky with a rebound off some branches off the 12th tee and Jon Rahm will have a decent chance of a strike.

Patrick Cantlay down the left centre.

  2. Europe keeping blue on the boardpublished at 15:10 BST 27 September

Leaderboard - one red, three blue

USA are fighting back today but the brilliance of the Europeans is keeping them at bay.

    Here's where we stand.

  3. Postpublished at 15:08 BST 27 September

    3UP DeChambeau/Young v Fitzpatrick/Aberg (13)

Cameron Young hits a lovely tee shot to 10 feet and Matt Fitzpatrick can't quite find an answer, so Europe in danger of going dormie four down here.

  4. Dominantpublished at 15:05 BST 27 September

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 4UP (12)

In this foursomes this week, the partnership of Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood has won 11 holes and led 23.

In contrast, Collin Morikawa and Harris English have won two and led just one.

Incredible stuff from the European duo.

  5. Want a bit of Rahm magic?published at 15:05 BST 27 September

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Rahm/Hatton 1UP (11)

Jon Rahm has put on a pitching exhibition in the past hour. This was the pick of a wonderful selection...

  6. Europe stay aheadpublished at 15:04 BST 27 September

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Hatton/Rahm 1UP (11)

Xander Schauffele has a chance for a three though. But he knocks that past. And Europe will see the one coming back, thank you very much.

Tyrrell Hatton tidies up for the four, so now Patrick Cantlay has to follow suit.

    And does. Half in four.

  7. Still alivepublished at 15:02 BST 27 September

    3UP DeChambeau/Young v Fitzpatrick/Aberg (13)

Decent up and downs in the end from both sides after a hole best forgotten. On they go to 14 with Europe still deep in trouble and not really looking likely to dig their way out of it.

On an upslope for Jon Rahm, but then the green slopes away from him. So he has to throw this up in the air so it doesn't run away from him, but also be careful he doesn't get right underneath it.

What do you reckon he did?

Yep, you're right. He caressed that to four feet in the latest episode of his pitching masterclass.

  10. Postpublished at 15:00 BST 27 September

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Hatton/Rahm 1UP (10)

Patrick Cantlay from the left rough on the 11th. He gouges it out to 10 feet. Typically solid from the grittiest US player.

Tyrrell Hatton from the right fairway bunker. He grabs the shaft of his iron after he made contact and that signals he is worried about the contact.

Looked like he knifed that. Even the best do that sometimes folks.

Sure enough, it flies the green and nestles down in the rough.

    3UP DeChambeau/Young v Fitzpatrick/Aberg (12)

Both pairs are playing like an amateur match down your local pay and play right now, in all sorts of trouble down among the trees and they're both now off the green in the rough after both hitting three.

    Very messy stuff.

  12. Solid from Bobpublished at 14:57 BST 27 September

    Henley/Scheffler v Hovland/MacIntyre 2UP (9)

A so-so chip from Viktor Hovland but a solid par save from Bob MacIntyre to keep Europe 2UP in this match at the turn.

That's because Scottie Scheffler can't find some magic from distance with a 20 footer - he's not really made a putt of any significance at this Ryder Cup.

Perhaps more worryingly for the USA he doesn't look like a man who can make those kind of putts, the body language isn't great from the world number one.

  13. Birdies all roundpublished at 14:56 BST 27 September

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 4UP (12)

Anything you can do, we can do too (and better).

Harris English plays his approach shot really nicely to land it around six feet from the hole and put the pressure right back on to Europe.

But if anyone can handle pressure, it is Masters champ Rory McIlroy.

The Northern Irishman gets a lovely bit of spin to get the ball stopping just a couple feet from cup.

No Mistake from Morikawa as he secures the birdie... and that is swiftly followed in by Tommy Fleetwood.

Europe not giving an inch in this foursomes.

  14. Escape for Europepublished at 14:50 BST 27 September

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Hatton/Rahm 1UP (10)

Jon Rahm had hit his approach left of the green. Juicy rough as you know. But in a role reversal, this time Tyrrell Hatton hits a really nice chip to virtual gimme length.

Patrick Cantlay has a putt to win the hole though. Up the hill. Should turn a little right to left.

He doesn't get the line right though and that stays on the top side. Rahm tidies up for the four and Europe stay ahead.

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 4UP (11)

The form that Tommy Fleetwood found towards the end of the regular golf calendar that saw him win the season-ending Tour Championship has well and truly been carried into this Ryder Cup.

We all know what Rory McIlroy is capable of, but Fleetwood has really shone so far today in this standout pairing.

  16. Postpublished at 14:49 BST 27 September

    Henley/Scheffler v Hovland/MacIntyre 2UP (8)

Criminal from Bob MacIntyre from just 150 yards out as he goes way long of the ninth green to really open the door for Team USA, who are safely on the green about 15 feet away.

  17. Fitz still fightingpublished at 14:46 BST 27 September

    3UP DeChambeau/Young v Fitzpatrick/Aberg (12)

They look like going down in this match but Europe aren't going down without a fight, as Matt Fitzpatrick makes a great birdie putt with the USA already in nice and close for their three.

It's just a half in the end but it's one that keeps them in the game, and when you're down big every hole you can stretch it out, delay the inevitable and just frustrate the opposition the better.

And essentially, Europe have made two mistakes here for two bogeys that look likely to cost them the match.

  18. Postpublished at 14:46 BST 27 September

    Cantlay/Schauffele v Hatton/Rahm 1UP (9)

Solid shot from Xander Schauffele. A look at a three and a four at worse.

Jon Rahm has a good lie in the fairway bunker and properly goes after it. I'm actually not sure where that has gone, but what I can tell you is it is not on the green.

Work to do for Europe on the 10th.

  19. Evens at 11published at 14:44 BST 27 September

    English/Morikawa v Fleetwood/McIlroy 4UP (11)

Nerveless from Harris English as he holes from four feet to match the birdie from Europe.

On we go and Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy remain four ahead with seven to play.
