  1. Schauffele goes under par for his roundpublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 16 June

    Schauffele E (7)

Out of the spotlight and chipping away at the leaders, Xander Schauffele is putting together a tidy fourth round.

He bogeyed the first but chipped in brilliantly from the sand on three for birdie and has just produced a magical second shot at seven to pick up another shot from four feet.

He's finished outside the top 10 once in seven US Open starts - and that was 14th in 2022.

    Currently in the top six.

  2. Postpublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 16 June

    DeChambeau -7, Pavon -3 (1)

Bryson DeChambeau had to replace his driver head on the driving range just before today's round for some reason, we're not sure why, and his first crack with it still had his famed distance but found the sandy area down the right.

He's quite lucky actually not to be under a bush and to have a pretty clean lie, but he couldn't manage to hold the green and he'll face a tricky chip from off the back coming up.

  3. Postpublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 16 June

    Fleetwood +3 (14)

Nobody is better than two under at present today and there are only two or three players in that bracket at present - one of them being Tommy Fleetwood.

The Englishman, who is still searching for a first major win, reached the turn in a two-under 33 and then rolled another birdie on the 13th before handing the shot straight back on the 14th

  4. Postpublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 16 June

    Cantlay -4, McIlroy -5 (2)

Rory McIlroy is lining up another birdie putt on the second this time from 19 feet but that's nowhere near high or bold enough and it turns right to left a foot or two in advance of the cup.

Patrick Cantlay has a six footer for his par after coming up short with a wedge but in it drops.

  5. Another bogey for Morikawapublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 16 June

    Conners +2, Morikawa +2 (4)

Another big step backwards for Collin Morikawa and Corey Conners (glad I was allocated this group).

They've both bogeyed the par-four fourth and drop to two over par.

I'll let you know if they make any positive movements, but if you don't hear from me...

  6. Nervy bogey for Pavonpublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 16 June

    DeChambeau -7, Pavon -3 (1)

A nervy start from Matthieu Pavon as he has a tentative jab at a six-foot par save on the first, which he left after not getting the speed right from distance.

Bryson DeChambeau has no such problems though with a confident two-putt to start his final round with a par.

  7. Scheffler finishes at eight overpublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 16 June

    Scheffler -8 (72)

When we started on Thursday, we were fully expecting Scottie Scheffler to be in the thick of Sunday's action.

As it is, he's just signed for a final round of 72 and will finish up eight over par.

The world number one will lick his wounds - and be back.

  8. Another triple for Abergpublished at 19:33 British Summer Time 16 June

    Aberg +1, Matsuyama -2 (2)

Oh no, disaster for Ludvig Aberg and his race is run already after only two holes, as he cards another triple-bogey seven.

His second shot sails out of bounds, then after a drop he finds the greenside bunker and then needs two putts which ends up with a seven.

  9. Hatton's ugly start continuespublished at 19:33 British Summer Time 16 June

    Finau E, Hatton +3 (3)

Tyrrell Hatton's start. Dearie me. Bogey, double bogey and now a bogey on the third. This is getting ugly.

  11. Birdie start for McIlroypublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 16 June

    Cantlay -4, McIlroy -5 (1)

Rory McIlroy looks pumped. It looked like he winked at Joe LaCava [Patrick Cantlay's caddie] as he shook his hand on the first tee and he booms his drive, long and straight.

The Northern Irishman then zips into 20 feet from the middle of the fairway and drains the sort of putt that simply wasn't dropping for him on Saturday.

A huge roar goes up which Bryson DeChambeau will have heard walking up the first.

  12. Double trouble for Hattonpublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 16 June

    Finau E, Hatton +2 (2)

Tyrrell Hatton looked pretty nonplussed after sending his approach into the second sailing left and well past the dance floor.

And no wonder, his pitch on to the green scoots off the right edge and all of a sudden he looks like a man with steam coming out of his ears as he chips on and then takes two with his putter from inside five feet.

Three shots gone in two holes. The 32-year-old's hopes of a first major look like they will have to be put on hold again. Tony Finau's trip into the sandscape down the left also costs him a shot.

  13. Fleetwood sets pacepublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 16 June

    Fleetwood -2 (13)

There are currently 10 players shooting under par in this round as the US Open leaderboard offers plenty of black numbers.

The best score? That'd be Tommy Fleetwood, who is at -3 today through 13 holes.

That shouldn't surprise you as he loves round four at the US Open.

He's the only man to shoot multiple final round scores of 63 in the tournament's history.

  14. Leader underwaypublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 16 June

    DeChambeau -7, Pavon -4

Bryson DeChambeau gets his final round underway alongside Matthieu Pavon. Just an iron off the first tee for the leader and he finds the fairway easy enough, but also finds a divot so that will be a tricky one to deal with first up.

  15. Postpublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 16 June

Bryson DeChambeau is also paying tribute to Payne Stewart and his win at Pinehurst 25 years ago by wearing this pin on the back of his cap for the final round of the US Open.

The United States Golf Association is honouring Payne Stewart and his legacy with a commemorative flag on the par-four 18th hole in Sunday’s final round at Pinehurst.

It is 25 years since Stewart left an indelible mark on the championship to win with an 18-foot birdie on the 72nd hole on this very course.

He punctuated the moment with an outstretched fist of triumph, almost buoyant in extension but then tragically lost his life in a plane crash four months later.

A bronze statue of his iconic victory celebration also overlooks the 18th green.

  18. Solid start for Abergpublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 16 June

    Aberg -2, Matsuyama -2 (1)

Ludvig Aberg gets an opening par four in his final round, which will be nice to settle down after what was a bit of a disaster yesterday with that triple bogey.

Playing with Hideki Matsuyama today will be a bit quieter as the crowd were loving Bryson DeChambeau yesterday, so maybe that will help the Swede, but he'll just be looking to end with a decent round.

  19. Postpublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 16 June

    Rai +1, T Kim +1 (3)

Another bogey for Tom Kim at the third.

    His card reads birdie-bogey-bogey.

Partner Aaron Rai of England has started with three steady pars.

They are both one over for the tournament.

  20. Bryson's salty ballspublished at 19:09 British Summer Time 16 June

    DeChambeau -7 (19:21 BST)

Yep, you've read that right - as Bryson DeChambeau, the mad scientist of the golfing world, dunks his golf balls in Epsom salt to judge their balance.

He really is a different breed, as he explains his thinking:

"I put my golf balls in Epsom salt. Essentially we float golf balls in a solution to make sure that the golf ball is not out of balance.

"So what I'm doing is finding pretty much the out-of-balanceness of it, how much out of balance it is. Heavy slide floats to the bottom, and then we mark the top with a dot to make sure it's always rolling over itself.

"I just try to be as precise as possible, and it's one more step that I do to make sure my golf ball flies as straight as it possibly can fly because I'm not that great at hitting it that straight."
