Sheikhzayedroad edged out long-time leader Quest For More by a nose in a thrilling finish to win the 250th staging of the Doncaster Cup.

George Baker sent the Roger Charlton-trained favourite Quest For More off from the front, and dictated the pace.

But Martin Harley was patient on seven-year-old Sheikhzayedroad, trained by David Simcock, and won on the line after two miles and two furlongs.

The pair finished clear of St Michel (6-1) who was third.

Analysis - BBC racing correspondent Cornelius Lysaght:

"Another heart-stopping finish to almost match the success of Simple Verse in Thursday's Park Hill Stakes.

"The winner and runner-up had this protracted, breathless duel through the final furlong - would Quest For More hold on, would Sheikhzayedroad get up? - at the end of two-and a quarter miles; another fantastic race with the winner prevailing by just millimetres.

"His increasingly successful trainer David Simcock described the winner, already successful on three continents, as a "very lovable and special horse" who could be off on his travels again, to Canada, in October. He'll race on next season."
