More from England assistant coach Graham Rowntree: "I think our environment makes guys blossom quite quickly. We want them to come in and express themselves and be comfortable in the environment, understanding that there are certain things they have to be very good at in terms of a step up in terms of international rugby.

"What I've seen from the guys has been very encouraging. With injuries you get an opportunity to look at someone else, and we've got some exceptional guys, a good pool of players at the moment."

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "At the moment we have a 21-player squad which is exactly the number we want to have. And with the natural improvement every big club has of bringing in one or two players, we are signing players for the future so I think we are doing well. We are doing things progressively; we did something in the summer; we did Matic now; we react with Juan with Salah."

Jose Mourinho on Chelsea's transfer window activity: "We are happy with what we did, Kevin De Bruyne was expected and very good if you can compare what Chelsea paid for Kevin a couple of years ago. Juan [Mata] was unexpected and we answered immediately with [Mohamed] Salah who will be a good player for us. [Nemanja] Matic was needed, we had six wingers and number 10s so without spending more than what we got we changed two players and our squad now is more balanced.

"Both cannot play Champions League but as I was saying our main objective is the future of our team."

  20. Footballpublished at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2014

Jose Mourinho: "Our main objective for this season is to build a team, the best way to build a team is to be competing for things. We need to be top three or four, we need to play against City for something - if there is 10 points distance it is not good. I believe next season we are going to have a strong team from day one. I can imagine next season we are going to be really strong but this season we are in the competitions, the next match is West Ham and we are there to try to win."
