    For the midweek Premier League fixtures, BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against former badminton world champion Gail Emms.

    The Spurs fan won a silver medal in the mixed doubles with Nathan Robertson at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and followed that with a world title in 2006, but she retired from the sport after the Beijing Olympics in 2008. However, she is making a comeback at next month's English National Championships in Milton Keynes.

    Looking ahead to tonight's Merseyside derby, the 5 live commentary match at Anfield, and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says: "It is a very important game as a victory puts us four points clear. Our home form over the course of the season has been brilliant.

    "When I came in here Everton had finished above Liverpool and last season finished above us also. Everton's basis is a good defensive record, still stable from what they have been over a few years - we are a team who have upped the ante in terms of our offensiveness."

    Mercedes unveil their new car ahead of the start of pre-season testing.

    With the biggest regulation changes for a generation, the car has an elegantly sloping front, in response to regulations that demand a lower nose for safety reasons.

    They have also integrated the camera mounts on the nose into the aerodynamic design, by mounting them on R-shaped pillars on the top of the nose cone. This may cause some of their rivals to question whether that is allowed.

    Japan will have their largest-ever Winter Olympics team travelling to a Games after naming a team of 113 athletes for next month's Games in Sochi.

    Their oldest competitor will be ski jumper Noriaki Kasai, who at 41 will be participating in his sixth Winter Olympics. The youngest is 15-year-old snowboarder Ayumu Hirano.

    Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers with some thoughts on midfielder Joe Allen ahead of tonight's Merseyside derby with Everton at Anfield, which kicks off at 20:00 GMT and can be heard live on BBC Radio 5 live.

    The Wales international missed the weekend's FA Cup win at Bournemouth with a hamstring injury and is a doubt for the game.

    "We need to see with Joe," Rodgers says. "He was on the training field on Monday but it is a case of assessing as to whether it will push him too much for this game because we don't want another injury in a key area."

    "If you look at the hard facts and say we've been here for three months and we've won one game and Australia have outplayed us in pretty much every single game, you'd expect morale to be pretty low," he added.

    England T20 captain Stuart Broad wants to leave Australia on a high by winning the final three matches of a difficult tour.

    The Test side, captained by Alastair Cook, were whitewashed 5-0 and the one-day team were beaten 4-1 in their five-match series while the three-match Twenty20 contest gets under way in Hobart on Wednesday before moving on to Sydney and Melbourne.

    "In T20 you pick guys who are playing well and in form and we've got guys here the likes of [Luke] Wright, [Michael] Lumb and [Alex] Hales coming into the squad who have played some really good Big Bash cricket - their confidence is high and they've brought a lot of confidence into the group, and there's a real nice buzz around the changing room," said Broad.

    Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has donated £96,000 to the Hillsborough Family Support Group ahead of Tuesday's Merseyside derby.

    The group, along with the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, has been leading the fight to discover what happened at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final at Hillsborough where 96 Liverpool fans died, among them Gerrard's cousin Jon-Paul Gilhooley, 10.

    Former London Broncos forward Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook signs a new contract with St Helens that will keep him at Langtree Park until the end of 2016.

    The 28-year-old prop has made 83 Super League appearances for Saints since joining them ahead of the 2011 season on a four-year deal which was due to run out this year.

    "Louie is a very good player who is popular amongst his team-mates," Saints coach Nathan Brown said. "He also has a lot of scope for improvement and his career is on the rise."

    The 2014 IPC Swimming European Championships are confirmed for Eindhoven, the Netherlands, from 4-10 August.

    The meeting, which will take place at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Stadium - which hosted the 2010 World Championships - is expected to draw 500 athletes from nearly 40 countries looking to put in strong performances ahead of the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, and two years into their preparations for Rio 2016.
