Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis has backed David Moyes to turn things around at Manchester United ahead of their visit in the late kick-off on Saturday.

"David has had a tough start but they have some fantastic players," said Pulis.

"I've watched their last three games on tape, and they could have won them all comfortably. They just haven't had the breaks, that momentum to take them forward."

Manuel Pellegrini has been reflecting further on his comments about referee Jonas Eriksson in Manchester City's defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday.

"I want to clarify there was no serious accusation to the referee or to Uefa. I said the referee decided the match because he didn't give us foul against Jesus Navas and then to the penalty we had a player sent off in that moment. The referee decided the game. A lot of time he didn't give the foul.

"It's a difficult profession, he had a bad day and I didn't say that he was a bad referee."

Chelsea will be without defender David Luiz for Saturday's match with Everton after Jose Mourinho revealed he faces a spell out injured with a muscle problem

The good news for the Blues though is that John Terry will be back.

"We have missed his leadership a bit. Many times we need a voice on the pitch," said Mourinho.

"Sometimes there are things to control, distances, defensive positions, sometimes I cannot communicate with them so to have someone with this kind of voice that can transmit what I need is also important."

Our chief football writer reflects on the news that Wayne Rooney has reached an agreement on a new five-year contract with Manchester United, said to be worth up to £300,000 a week.

"A deal on such a scale was always going to be needed to persuade a player of Rooney's stature to commit to a club that looks increasingly unlikely to be able to offer him Champions League football next season.

"This is about a demonstration - some might even say desperation - to show that United under David Moyes can still keep their best players even at a time when their own status in the domestic and European game is reduced, no matter how temporarily.

"Rooney will not just be an important figure for United on the pitch, Moyes and the Old Trafford hierarchy will hope to use his continued presence as proof of their ambition and to try and attract other players of equal importance."

Speaking ahead of the lunch time kick-off against Everton, the Chelsea boss added: "It doesn't matter what happened in the past. I think we can beat them because we believe in ourselves and we work hard in the week to be in a good position for the match."

"The table is there. You can look at the table and see how it is. We are top but can be second if Man City win the match they have in hand. If we win tomorrow we keep the same position. If we don't beat Everton and lose points at home it's never good."
