Ryan Giggs has all the credentials to successfully manage Manchester United next season, according to his former team-mate Louis Saha.

Giggs has been placed in charge of the team until the end of the season following the sacking of David Moyes.

Saha, who played alongside Giggs for four years, said: "He can do the job now, for sure. It seems like an easy choice for now because he proved he can do it last weekend.

"I was sad to see David Moyes go. But maybe it would have been more clever to give (Giggs) his chance months ago."

Ayrton Senna joined McLaren for the 1988 season, and was paired with Alain Prost to give the team a formidable driver line-up.

Senna secured pole on his debut at the Brazilian GP but was disqualified half way through the race for a car change. That was to prove only a blip, though, as he went on to win eight of the next 15 races to take the championship ahead of Prost.

It marked the start of one of Formula 1's greatest rivalries and the two once again battled against each other for the title the following year. This time Prost had the edge, and turned in on Senna at the chicane at the Japanese Grand Prix to end the Brazilian's championship chances.

Throughout the day, Sportsday is recapping the life and career of three-time Formula 1 world champion Ayrton Senna, who died 20 years ago today.

Garry Monk says he is "hopeful" of landing the permanent manager's position at Swansea.

Swansea put their former club captain in charge after they parted company with Michael Laudrup almost three months ago.

Monk confirmes he has spoken with club chairman Huw Jenkins ahead of the final two league fixtures against Southampton this weekend and Sunderland in 10 days' time.

"We'll see. Of course I am hopeful," Monk said, when asked if he thought he would get the job. "It is something I really enjoy doing, I've learnt a hell of a lot in a short space of time, and once you get a taste of it you don't want to let it go."

Former Southampton and England striker Matt Le Tissier believes Saints striker Ricky Lambert should be selected for England's World Cup squad ahead of West Ham's Andy Carroll.

He said: "Andy Carroll is probably better in the air than Rickie is, but not by enough to make up all the attributes Rickie has that he doesn't.

"For me, there is no comparison between Rickie's form and Andy's over the last couple of seasons. I don't even think it is a close decision."It is no contest for me. No contest."

BBC F1 pit-lane reporter Lee McKenzie: "Ayrton Senna loved his home country and took every opportunity to go back to Brazil. Winning there meant more to him than any other grand prix, but he had to wait until 1991 for it to happen. But when it did, what a story.

"Senna led most of the race, but ran into gearbox trouble in the closing stages and Williams' Riccardo Patrese began to close. By the final two laps, with light rain falling, Senna's McLaren was stuck in sixth gear, a huge handicap around the twists and turns of Interlagos.

"Senna held on to win the race, but at huge physical cost. As the celebratory sambas broke out in the grandstands, their hero had stopped on track, needing medical help. He was so exhausted, and in such pain from cramp in his shoulders, that he could not get out of the car. When he finally made it to the podium, he could barely stand, and he was in agony as he tried to lift the trophy. But he managed it, using all the noise and energy from his adoring fans to raise the cup briefly above his aching shoulders."

BBC's pit-lane reporter Tom Clarkson: "For a while now you've been wondering how much you need Formula 1. You have more money than you'll ever manage to spend and a global status that befits one of the greatest sportsmen in history.

"These thoughts come to a head on Saturday 30 April 1994, when Roland Ratzenberger is killed. You've got to know Roland quite well through your Austrian physio Joseph Leberer, whose birthday celebrations are somewhat muted that evening, and you're fuming that the stewards tried to punish you for visiting the site of Roland's accident during qualifying.

"After dinner with Joseph and Willi Dungl you telephone your family back in Brazil to discuss the following day's race. They push for you to stop, but still you turn up. You go to the grid because you have a contract with Williams and you're an honourable man. And you need to race. You're Ayrton Senna."
