    Former diplomat Shaharyar Khan is the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

    Khan, 80, becomes the 30th chairman of the PCB but the only one to have a second tenure, having held the post between December 2003 and October 2006.

    Lincoln City manager Gary Simpson has revealed how he used jelly babies to help the team win against league leaders Barnet on Saturday.

    It came after the team bus failed to turn up, leaving the players having to make their own way to London and unable to transport their tactics board, so Simpson used the sweets on one of the kit lockers to demonstrate the team's formation.

    Summer signing Jack Colback says his Newcastle United debut was a "proud" moment despite ending in defeat by Manchester City on Sunday.

    Midfielder Colback, 24, ended a 16-year association with the Magpies' rivals Sunderland when he moved to St James' Park in June on a free transfer. Despite his Wearside stint, Colback was a boyhood Newcastle supporter.

    "I enjoyed getting that first game out of the way and it was a proud occasion," Colback told BBC Newcastle.

    Hereford United director John Edwards is confident the club has been saved from extinction.

    The Southern League outfit still face winding-up petitions from HMRC and former manager Martin Foyle and assistant Andy Porter on 1 September, but are now selling season tickets and approaching sponsors.

    "We always said we would not do that until unless we knew we had a product to sell," Edwards told BBC Sport. "After meetings with investors over the weekend, we are now 100% certain of that."

    England bowler James Anderson says his row with India's Ravindra Jadeja helped him focus. "Possibly, in the last few games, I have concentrated more on being aggressive with the ball rather than my mouth," says Anderson, who was cleared, along with Jadeja, following an International Cricket Council hearing.

    "I think I tried to be as aggressive. Whether I tried to say any less, I don't know. But I think the Jadeja incident made me more determined to perform on the field. What's helped me in the last five or six years is the fact I've been aggressive on the field and had the odd word.

    "I've tried not to cross the line. And that's why the umpires are there to monitor that."
