    Rangers supporters have expressed concern over reports that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has been asked to increase his stake in the Scottish Championship club as part of a £4m share issue.

    Ashley already owns about 7% of Rangers' shares and the Union of Fans, an umbrella group of Rangers supporters' representatives, has demanded assurances over dual ownership complications.

    "We would question the wisdom of approaching someone who, despite his obvious wealth, cannot significantly invest in the club without removing himself from his ownership position at Newcastle," says a Union of Fans statement.

    Reading chairman Sir John Madejski plays down hopes of a sudden influx of signings under the new owners.

    The club recently announced a "partnership" with a Thai consortium led by Khunying Sasima Srivikorn.

    The Football League are yet to approve the full takeover but Madejski told BBC Berkshire discussions have gone well and the deal is close to being sealed.

    "The new consortium are not going to come here and throw their money around like drunken sailors," said Madejski

    Spanish winger Edu Oriol joins twin brother Joan Oriol at Blackpool, signing a one-year deal subject to international clearance.

    Edu Oriol, 27, also has the option of a further year and joins after playing in Cyprus with AEL Limassol last season.

    He also had spells at Barcelona, playing for their B side, and Real Zaragoza earlier in his career.

    The last time the Oriol twins appeared for the same club was during a loan spell at Spanish side Reus Deportiu in 2006.

    New Southampton boss Ronald Koeman thinks his team were worthy of more than a 2-1 defeat at Liverpool in their opening game of the Premier League season.

The stadium was built in 1990 to host the 1991 World Student Games at a cost of £29m and was one of the UK's leading athletics venues before it was demolished.

    Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy would prefer not to return to Newcastle, according to Hoops manager Harry Redknapp.

    Remy, 27, scored 14 goals on loan with the Magpies last season and manager Alan Pardew had stated his interest in signing the Frenchman permanently.

    "He didn't want to go back to Newcastle which is a massive club, so unless it's a club in the top seven I don't think he'll go," says Redknapp.
