    Everton have signed 15-year-old midfielder Fraser Hornby from Northampton Town under the terms of the Elite Player Performance Plan.

    The Cobblers will receive an initial £65,500 and could earn up to a maximum of £1.3m in the future, depending on how many first-team games he plays.

    Everton will have to pay £150,000 for every 10 Premier League games played by the teenager, up to 60 games.

    They will pay £100,000 for every further 10 appearances, up to 100 games.

    Fifa's medical chief has called for matches to be halted for three minutes if a player suffers a suspected concussion.

    Michel D'Hooghe - speaking at the Soccerex Global Convention, external in Manchester - said he will make the proposal to Uefa and Fifa, adding only team doctors should be allowed to decide whether a player can continue, not the manager.

    Alastair Cook should be allowed until after the World Cup to decide his future as England's one-day captain, that's according to Essex coach Paul Grayson.

    Cook's position in the ODI side has come under scrutiny since the 3-1 series defeat by India.

    "I think he's the man to lead the side forward," Grayson told BBC Essex.

    England prospect Anthony Watson, 20, has signed a two-year contract extension to stay with Bath until 2017.

    Watson toured New Zealand with England in the summer and joined Bath from London Irish.

    "Anthony is an incredible talent and we're obviously delighted he's staying with us," said Bath head coach Mike Ford.

    Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq (pictured above) has backed Saeed Ajmal to return to international cricket following his suspension by the ICC for an illegal bowling action.

    Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live's Peter Allen, he said: "I believe the quality of a great player is that they can change and adapt their technique.

    "He is a very intelligent bowler, who I believe can work on that and he can come back."

    Former Premier League footballer Marlon King has lost the chance to appeal against an 18-month jail term for dangerous driving.

    The 34-year-old was jailed in May after causing a pile-up in Nottinghamshire while eating ice cream.

    The former Birmingham City striker applied to the Court of Appeal to have his sentence suspended so he could spend time with his family in Zambia.

    But three top judges said it was an "unusually bad offence" and that it was a just sentence.
