    After their narrow win over Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad two weeks ago, Liverpool travel to Basel tonight in Group B and their former striker Emile Heskey told 5 live Breakfast: "If I'm talking honestly, I don't think it's worked out for them this season. It doesn't look like they've even started playing the football that we know Brendan Rodgers' teams can play.

    "The pressing and the intensity of last season doesn't seem to be there. I thought the defence would be a bit more solid, and it hasn't really looked as solid as I thought it would be.

    "It's a work in progress. He's bought a few more players in. The squad is a stronger squad. I think the team is as strong as it was last year."

    Former Manchester United favourite Paul Scholes was a television pundit at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening and criticised the lack of atmosphere, external in the stadium.

    The attendance was 37,509, well below the 45,500 capacity for European games, and Scholes said: "When you come here it just doesn't have a European night feel to it. You go to Liverpool, you go to Old Trafford, you go to Chelsea, they have a special feeling for it."
