    A familiar face could line up against Liverpool tonight - ex-Tottenham star Gareth Bale. The Real Madrid forward, 25, has missed five matches through injury and has returned ahead of tonight's Champions League tie.

    But will he start? Or be sat in one of those comfy-looking heated seats on the Madrid bench? Real boss Carlo Ancelotti is keeping us guessing...

    "Gareth Bale is ready to play and is back from injury. I don't know if he will play from the off or on the bench," says Ancelotti.

    Newcastle United fans have helped raise more than £5,000 for charity after signed T-shirts in support of Magpies star Jonas Gutierrez were auctioned off.

    Gutierrez was diagnosed with testicular cancer earlier this year and his team-mates wore warm-up tops bearing his name ahead of the Premier League match against Hull in September.

    The Argentina international, 31, announced on Monday that he has been given the all-clear.

    England assistant coach Graham Rowntree is confident that Dave Attwood will be available to play against New Zealand at the weekend.

    Bath lock Attwood, 27, missed Tuesday afternoon's training session after leaving to be with his pregnant fiancee who has gone into labour.

    "He'll be fine. We'll play it day by day. We're off tomorrow but I'm expecting Dave to be back in Thursday and to train a happy man," says Rowntree.

    "We'd like Dave to be around on the weekend for quite a big game. We announce the team on Thursday. He'll be heavily involved. He's playing well, he deserves it."

    Great Britain Davis Cup captain Leon Smith thinks Scotland "deserves" more high-profile tennis tournaments.

    Glasgow's Emirates Arena will host the first-round tie with the United States in March.

    "South of the border gets a lot of tennis, there are lots of grass court events and the Tour Finals that are on next week," Smith told BBC Scotland. "With Andy Murray coming through and becoming a Wimbledon champion, Scotland deserves the opportunity for access."

    Former Wales flanker Richard Parks has been talking to BBC Sport's Ben Dirs about conquering demons, depression and Everest.

    "He brawled in a nightclub, slept in his own vomit. Then, ashamed and embarrassed, he disappeared under a duvet and grieved," writes Dirs.

    Parks says of being forced to retire from rugby union: "Fewer people nowadays have a career for life, and that means more people, like me, having the rug pulled from under them.

    "So many people are having to retrain and re-evaluate. So the ability to evolve, be resilient, and so many other skills we aren't taught formerly, are becoming more and more important. But that doesn't mean you have to scale Everest."

    Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure says the abuse he has been subjected to on social media is "a disgrace".

    Police are investigating claims Toure was racially abused on Twitter, just hours after he reactivated his account following a five-month absence.

    "For me it's a disgrace to be honest," Toure, 31, told BBC Sport. "We need to do something to try to tell people those kinds of behaviour have to stop. "I want those people to understand what they're doing is wrong."

    Chris Eubank Jr has said he failed to attend a media conference this week as he was concerned opponent Billy Joe Saunders may act "unprofessionally".

    The pair will compete on 29 November in a WBO middleweight title eliminator.

    Eubank Jr told BT Sport: "I respect the business of boxing so much, which is why I didn't come to the press conference, because Billy Joe Saunders is unprofessional about things he might do and say.

    "That brings a bad light on British boxing and we need to stay away from things like that. My job is to get in the ring, beat him and take the belts."

    Jo Pavey says she is disappointed but not surprised to miss out on lottery funding, telling the BBC she is "probably too old" to receive it.

    The 41-year-old runner has enjoyed one of the most successful years of her athletic career, winning European 10,000m gold and Commonwealth Games 5,000m bronze.

    But she was a notable absentee when British Athletics announced its funding list on Monday.

    "It's nice to have that support, but I'm still focused on my goals and it's just another thing to overcome," said the Englishwoman. "I'll be putting the same effort into my training and doing the best I can really."

    Watford's Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo says his seven years playing in Europe have made him a stronger person.

    He left home aged 18 to play in Norway in freezing conditions and told BBC Three Counties Radio: "It changed many things about me. My friends used to call me mummy's boy. I liked being with my mum and brothers."

    The 25-year-old, who signed a contract to 2017 with the Hornets last month, added: "Living in Nigeria, it's like 40 degrees. I went to Norway and sometimes it's like minus 23. It was not easy going there as a young player with no family. But playing in Europe was my dream."

    Rob Howley says Dan Lydiate has proved his fitness ahead of Saturday's opening autumn international against Australia.

    Lydiate has started only two games for Racing Metro this season, and is currently unattached after announcing he is returning to Wales.

    Injured Nottingham Forest captain Chris Cohen says there is no chance of a return before the scheduled nine-month lay-off even if he feels fit enough.

    The midfielder has been out since September after suffering the third cruciate knee ligament injury of his career in the draw with Derby County.

    "The surgeon won't let me play before nine months because it's a re-rupture," Cohen, 27, told BBC Radio Nottingham. "One more and it will probably be game over so I have to be very careful."

    Former Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Eddie Stuart has died at the age of 83, following a long illness.

    South Africa-born defender Stuart played 322 games for the club and was a member of the league title-winning sides of 1954, 1958 and 1959.
