Wales assistant coach Rob Howley: "The only thing about the modern game is flexibility about players playing in different positions.

"George [North] has gone to the centre, played there twice, scored three tries. He's going to be stressed a little bit defensively but we're more than comfortable with George playing in the centre.

"Disappointed to lose both Scott [Williams] and Jon [Davies] through injury but it's important we look after our players and make sure they're 100% fit. Hopefully it's going to be a game where they have plenty of possession."

Another day, another potential selection headache for England.

Head coach Stuart Lancaster has already lost a host of forwards ahead of Saturday's opening autumn Test against New Zealand, including Wasps lock Joe Launchbury.

Bath's Dave Atwood was expected to replace Launchbury - now his place could be in doubt too. Atwood has left the England camp to join his pregnant fiancé who has gone into labour.

A decision will be made later in the week about whether he is available to face the All Blacks.

A Stockport fan has successfully bid at an auction set up for the allegiance of a newborn baby.

Ian Charters, 30, had put son Eddie's loyalty up for grabs and had invited Manchester United and City fans to bid. But the seven-month-old will instead support local club Stockport - after a County fan came forward with a winning offer of £190.

"It'll be good for his character building," said Ian, a Watford fan, "It's good to support your local team."

A funny exchange between Gordon Strachan and one of the journalists who asks the Scotland boss if he would take a "tanking" by England in exchange for three points against Euro 2016 qualifying opponents Ireland.

"Depends what the definition of a tanking is! No I wouldn't," replies Strachan before having a few moments more thought. "No I definitely wouldn't take a tanking by England!"

Scotland produced an encouraging display in a thrilling draw in Poland last month and Strachan hopes his side can replicate that against Republic of Ireland.

"But if we put up fantastic performance and Ireland's is better than ours we've got a problem. Hopefully the night will be remembered for a great game and great goals."

  17. Strachan focusing on performancepublished at 12:10 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

"What the fans want is a performance and they want to come along and enjoy the experience, and hopefully that's what we're doing now," says boss Gordon Strachan.

"When we get good feedback from the crowd that helps us, no doubt about it."

Stoke right-back Phil Bardsley is also recalled by Scotland as Aston Villa counterpart Alan Hutton misses out through injury.

"Phil has been a regular at Stoke and has been very steady," says Strachan. "Stoke are reasonably happy with their start to the season and so should Phil. Along with Steven Whittaker, I've got good options at full-back."

  19. Strachan good vibes on Macleodpublished at 12:06 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan on calling up Lewis Macleod: "I get good reports from our coaches, people who have played against him, people who have worked with him and I look forward to seeing him.

"I like bringing young players along. I want to find out whether they'll work in the system we're trying. You get to find out what they're like and that will be beneficial when they come in next time, so it's not such a scary thing."
