    Murdered South Africa captain Senzo Meyiwa has been nominated for the African Player of the Year award.

    The honour is awarded to the best player in Africa and runs alongside the award for African players not based on the continent.

    The 27-year-old Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was shot dead at a house in the Vosloorus township, near Johannesburg. Meyiwa's name is one of 20 put up for the award.

    World champion Marc Marquez looks on course to end the 2014 MotoGP season in the same dominant fashion that has seen him clinch the title with ease.

    The Spaniard, of Repsol Honda, topped the combined timesheets following Friday's two practice sessions at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo ahead of the season-ending event.

    His time of one minute 31.296 seconds in the morning session was the fastest of the day with compatriot Jorge Lorenzo's Movistar Yamaha second.

    The top eight players in the world have arrived at London's O2 Arena ahead of the ATP World Tour Finals, which begin on Sunday.

    "I'm in a good place, fighting for number one in the world and in a good position," says world number one Novak Djokovic.

    "I won this tournament twice in a row and it gives me enough reason to believe I can do well this year."

    A new father, he confirmed that future travel arrangements for baby Stefan are still under discussion. "It's too early of course for the baby to travel here," added Djokovic. "Next year we'll think about that."

    Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar has written off England's chances of winning next year's World Cup.

    "I think Australia, South Africa, New Zealand are a dark horse, and India - these four should be my semi-finalists," says Tendulkar.

    "Do England have a chance? Not really. I don't think so. "Anything is possible in this sport but going on current form I don't think England will be that competitive."

    England were beaten 3-1 by India in a one-day series this summer.

    St Helens winger Ade Gardner has retired from playing to take up a coaching position at the club.

    Gardner is the new assistant strength and conditioning coach as Keiron Cunningham organises the backroom team of the Super League champions.

    The former Great Britain international spent the 2014 season on loan at Hull KR after three years of injury issues.

    "I was going to retire at the end of 2015 but the club offered me this role and it made sense," says Gardner, 31.

    Para-bobsleigh and Para-skeleton will have their own World Cups this winter under the auspices of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (FIBT) as the sports bid to be part of the 2018 Winter Paralympics.

    Para-bobsleigh athletes will use monobobs which can be piloted and braked by one person, with two classes in the sport - one for athletes who can push-start their monobobs and the other for athletes who require a sitting start.

    In the Para-skeleton races all athletes will use one leg to get their sleds moving.

    The season will start in Park City, USA from 10-14 November before Calgary (17-22 Nov), Igls, Austria (18-23 Jan) and St. Moritz, Switzerland (26-30 Jan).

    Where did he ever disappear to? Well guess what, he has applied for the Motherwell job, according to BBC Scotland.

    The 44-year-old former Chelsea and Netherlands defender - a Champions League winner with Ajax in 1995 - wants to succeed Stuart McCall and is one of over 50 applications for the Fir Park job.

    Mark Hughes has just addressed the media ahead of Stoke City's trip to Tottenham on Sunday.

    The Potters' manager says Phil Bardsley and Peter Crouch are fit and he has also had some kind words on Victor Moses, who is on loan from Chelsea.

    "We are delighted with what Victor Moses has been producing," says Hughes. "As we stand, Chelsea, Victor and ourselves are all winning. We're not yet at the point to talk about Victor's future but I must say that he's done very well."
