    And so it begins. The biggest domestic cup competition in the world, the FA Cup so often acts as a treasure chest of stories.

    Tonight, Warrington Town - from Northern Premier League Division One - play in the first round for the only time in their history when they entertain Exeter and it is live on BBC Two.

    Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert seeks comfort from West Ham boss Sam Allardyce when quizzed on the safety of his position at Villa Park.

    Lambert is under scrutiny after Villa's run of six straight defeats ahead of their trip to West Ham on Saturday.

    "Sam has been through it and he has been there and bought the t-shirt," says Lambert when asked about the pressure he is under. "When results go for you then great, but if not then you know what's coming."

    The British Horseracing Authority is to receive a report into a pile-up in a race at Wolverhampton in which one horse died and three jockeys were hurt on Thursday.

    Richard Kingscote is to undergo an operation after suffering arm, collarbone and rib injuries, Paul Hanagan has a broken collarbone and Freddy Tylicki a possible broken nose.

    The David Nicholls-trained Fitz Flyer, whose fall on the final turn caused the incident, suffered a fatal injury.

    The Times, external report Yaya Toure could be heading for the exit door at Manchester City.

    The Ivory Coast international, 31, has been widely criticised for his performances this year and was sent off after scoring in the club's 2-1 Champions League defeat to CSKA Moscow on Wednesday.

    According to the Times, City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak is "calm" about the club's current form but a good offer for Toure would be enough for his departure.

    The Chilean is under pressure after a dismal Champions League campaign so far and the Mirror believe Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola is the man City will turn to if the club's fortunes do not change.

    Tottenham striker Harry Kane took his tally for the season to nine with the match-winning strike against Asteras Tripolis on Thursday.

    The 21-year-old now has eight goals in his last eight games but did not make Roy Hodgson's squad despite the England boss admitting he had thought about his inclusion.

    After Spurs' win, manager Mauricio Pochettino hit back at criticism his side have a weak mentality: "If you have a weak mentality, it would be there in 90 minutes, not only in some moments," said Pochettino.

    Tottenham host stoke City this weekend, while Everton travel to Sunderland and both warmed in slickly in Thursday night's Europa League.

    "We played with a maturity that suggested we had been playing in Europe for years," said Everton boss Roberto Martinez of his side's win over Lille.

    The Blues are now on eight points and top their group while Tottenham sit second in Group C on the same tally after a 2-1 victory at Asteras Tripolis.
