    Having been put in by Alastair Cook, Sri Lanka reached 317-6 in their 50 overs.

    Australia batsman Phil Hughes remains in a "critical" condition in a Sydney hospital after he was hit on the head by a short-pitched ball.

    Hughes was wearing a helmet made by manufacturer Masuri.

    As we reported earlier, Darren Bent has completed a loan move to Brighton but the Birmingham Mail newspaper, external reports the move will disappoint many Aston Villa fans.

    The newspaper asked fans whether they would want him in the Villa starting line-up and 80% of Villa supporters filling in the poll felt the former England man should be given a starting role at Villa Park.

    Bayern Munich's defence is unsurprisingly well represented in the nominations for Fifa's World XI 2014, with three of their back four shortlisted.

    Philip Lahm, David Alaba and Jerome Boateng are all included in the list of 20 defenders, which has been released two days after the five nominated goalkeeepers were unveiled. The World XI is decided by the players and involves votes from tens of thousands professional footballers worldwide.

    Mark Selby hopes to end a momentous year by improving on finishing runner-up at last season's UK Championship.

    Selby won the World Championship for the first time in 2014, but said that was eclipsed by then becoming a father.

    His wife Vikki gave birth to daughter Sofia Maria on 11 November and Selby said he has barely stopped smiling since, despite the sleep deprivation.

    "It's been a great year and hopefully I can cap 2014 off by having a good run in the UK," he told BBC Sport.

    "I didn't sleep much for the first five or six nights but from Monday I started practising again and have been sleeping in a different room trying to catch up on my sleep a little bit. "

    The home of Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama was burgled while he was away with his club.

    Thieves broke into the home when Kenyan midfielder Wanyama was away for the game at Aston Villa on Monday night.

    When the 23-year-old returned he found his Range Rover Sport, electrical items and jewellery had been stolen from his home in Winchester. The vehicle was later found in Iver, Buckinghamshire.

    Stoke City's on-loan Chelsea striker Victor Moses faces up to eight weeks out with a thigh injury, reports BBC Radio Stoke.

    "It's bad news on Victor Moses," said Stoke assistant manager Mark Bowen.

    "A problem with his thigh.

    "He will be out with anything up to six to eight weeks. It's a big hit. He had a scan yesterday and it wasn't good news. At the moment we're deciding with Chelsea whether to go back and have the rehab there or stay with our team"
