  6. Wimbledon take on Liverpool

    Football

Time now to look ahead briefly to tonight's FA Cup fixtures. One of the ties of the round sees AFC Wimbledon take on Liverpool in what, as I'm sure you'll aware, is a repeat of the famous 1988 final.

Wimbledon keeper Dave Beasant saved a penalty from Liverpool's John Aldridge in that game and current Dons number one James Shea would love to make a similar impact against the Reds.

"I haven't seen the save but I've heard it is unbelievable," Shea said. "It was a great day for them. They weren't expected to win and hopefully we can replicate what they did."

    Football

    Dan Roan

    BBC sports editor

Debbie Abrahams, MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth, has cautioned Oldham Athletic against signing convicted rapist Ched Evans.

"As he is claiming his innocence, and in the process of appealing against his conviction, both he, and football clubs, should wait for the outcome of this process before even considering a return to the sport.

"In view of this, although he has served his sentence, footballers are seen as role models by many and in my view it would send out an entirely inappropriate message to young fans and the victims of sex crimes for him to be signed by Oldham Athletic or anyone."
