    A bit of context on that announcement, which has come as something of a surprise, with Norwich riding relatively high at seventh in the Championship.

    Adams was appointed permanent manager of Norwich in May, having taken charge of the club as caretaker following the departure of Chris Hughton.

    Former world number one Victoria Azarenka's comeback after an injury-hit 2014 ended in disappointment after she suffered a marathon defeat to Czech player Kristina Pliskova.

    The loss means Azarenka, currently ranked 31, is unlikely to be seeded for this year's Australian Open.

    Double Seven, who finished third in the 2014 Grand National for champion jockey AP McCoy, has been ruled out for the season.

    Irish trainer Martin Brassil said the horse, rated one of the early favourites at 25-1 for this year's race on 11 April, had suffered a setback.

    "He's out for the season, unfortunately," said Brassil of the nine-year-old, owned by JP McManus.

    "We're very hopeful that we'll be able to get him back in (training) next season and go back to Aintree again, though."

    A tug-of-love is developing over Southampton midfielder Sadio Mane between his club and his national team, Senegal.

    Senegal coach Alain Giresse has said he will include Mane in their final 23-man squad for the African Nations Cup despite Southampton saying the injured midfielder will be out for several weeks.

    Mane picked up a calf muscle injury in Southampton's Premier League win over Arsenal on New Year's Day, and Ronald Koeman had told the club's website, external that Mane will not play in the Afcon.

    Top seed Deta Hedman has hinted she may retire from darts following her defeat by Lisa Ashton in the first round of the BDO Women's World Championship at the Lakeside.

    "Personally I wonder whether it might be time to take a back seat. I've given it my all over the past few years and I just feel I can't give any more," the 55-year-old told BBC Radio Oxford.

    Hedman, twice a beaten finalist, added: "I just can't seem to get past this hurdle and it's frustrating. I haven't fallen out of love with darts, but it's hard when you have a full-time job.

    Welsh fly-half Owen Williams has opted not to return to Wales and has extended his contract, external with Leicester Tigers.

    Williams, 22, joined Tigers from Scarlets in the summer of 2013 and has scored over 300 points for the club.

    Leicester Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill said: "Owen has done an excellent job for us since he came here 18 months ago and I'm delighted that he wants to stay in the longer term and has now agreed a new contract."
