    Aljaz Bedene is hoping to be granted British citizenship this week - and has his sights set on representing his adopted country in Davis Cup in March.

    It emerged last year that the 25-year-old Slovenian, who has lived in Britain since 2008, was intending to switch nationalities.

    "My solicitor is taking care of it and it should be in the next couple of days," he said.

    St Johnstone forward James McFadden and Hibernian striker Jason Cummings have both been issued with notices of complaint by the Scottish FA's compliance officer for alleged offensive gestures.

    McFadden appeared to react to goading visiting fans after being sent off last weekend and has been offered a fixed two-match ban, while Cummings has been offered a one-match ban.

    Both clubs have until Wednesday afternoon to respond to the charges.

    Crystal Palace confirm, external that striker Andrew Johnson, 33, has left the club following the completion of his short-term contract. He made only one substitute appearance in the League Cup defeat against Newcastle in September since returning to the club that month.

    Gianfranco Zola suffered a 5-0 defeat in his first game in charge of Cagliari this afternoon. They were mauled at Palermo while AC Milan were humbled at home, losing 2-1 to Sassuolo. That result leaves Milan seventh in the table.

    Roma moved joint-top with a 1-0 win over Udinese but Juventus can move three points clear tonight if they beat Inter Milan at home.

    Elsewhere in Serie A today: Chievo 0-0 Torino, Empoli 0-0 Hellas Verona, Genoa 2-2 Atalanta, Parma 1-0 Fiorentina.

    Middlesbrough defender Rhys Williams will have surgery after scans confirmed that he ruptured his Achilles tendon in Saturday's FA Cup win over Barnsley.

    It was his first start since sustaining a similar injury 11 months earlier.

    The injury has been described as "extremely rare" with Boro saying the 26-year-old Australia international has "damaged another part of the tendon,", external not related to the previous problem.

    More now on Steven Gerrard's move to LA Galaxy.

    The 34-year-old, who netted twice in the FA Cup third round on Tuesday, will earn £6m over the 18-months of his contract.

    The 2015 MLS season runs from March through to October with the full fixtures list announced on Wednesday. Gerrard could of course meet ex-England team-mate Frank Lampard in the competition when he eventually joins New York City.

    Norwich City will not find it easy to recruit a top manager under their current structure, according to former striker Iwan Roberts.

    Neil Adams, who quit on Monday, was working as part of a four-man football executive board at the Carrow Road club.

    "If they won't let that next manager have free reign where he can do what he pleases, they will struggle to get a top-class manager at the club," said former Wales international Roberts, who is third on Norwich's all-time scorers list with 97.

    "There is this footballing board that overlooks everything - transfers, footballing matters. That's the manager's job, let him get on with it," he told BBC Radio Norfolk.

    The Rugby Football League announce bookmakers Ladbrokes will succeed Tetley's as the new sponsors of the Challenge Cup.

    The new deal is for three years and thought to be worth in excess of £1m a season.

    Forty amateur clubs, including representatives of the armed forces and the police, will go into the hat for the first-round draw at Wembley on Thursday, with clubs from higher leagues entering at later dates. This year's Wembley final takes place on 29 August.
