England to miss sevens seven

Lionhearts name team for Casablanca clash

The British Lionhearts have named four Commonwealth Games medallists to face the Morocco Atlas Lions in the World Series of Boxing in Casablanca on Friday.

It is the same team that defeated the China Dragons 3-2 in the opening match of the season and includes Antony Fowler (middleweight), Qais Ashfaq (bantamweight), Sam Maxwell (light-welterweight) and Ashley Williams (light-flyweight) along with Romanian heavyweight, Ionut-Mirel Jitaru.

Cobblers make double signing

Northampton Town have signed Portsmouth midfielder Ricky Holmes, 27, on a free transfer after a loan spell at Sixfields.

He has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract, and the Cobblers have also brought in former Oxford left-back Tom Newey, 32, on a deal to the end of the season.

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last three meetings with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge but in November 2011, Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Kelly both scored in a five-minute spell after the break as Kenny Dalglish's Reds recorded a 2-0 victory in the League Cup quarter-finals, and went on to lift the trophy that season, beating Cardiff on penalties in the final.

One of the great meetings of recent vintage between Chelsea and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge came in the Champions League in April 2009 when neither John Terry or Steven Gerrard featured and it finished 4-4 on the night, Chelsea advancing to the semi-finals 7-5 on aggregate.

Liverpool led 2-0 at half-time but after going 3-2 behind, two goals in as many minutes from Lucas and Dirk Kuyt put them 4-3 ahead before Frank Lampard struck in the final minute with his second goal.

Sissoko wants to be 'at one of the biggest clubs in England'

Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko has told French website Foot Mercato that he wants to play for "a very big club" as speculation continues over his future.

Paris St-Germain have been linked with the France international, who described Arsenal as "the club of my heart" in early January.

"I want to stay here and grow at one of the biggest clubs in England," Sissoko said. "If it happens, it happens. I am at Newcastle and I will continue to work until one day I have the chance to play at a very big club."

Doubts over British Basketball League

The future of the British Basketball League and its 13 franchises is shrouded in doubt after Basketball England announced it will review whether to put the rights to run the professional league out to tender.

The current licence is reportedly due to expire in August.

The court heard that a minion, a red crayon and others in fancy dress were nearby as the incident unfolded.

Bojan to miss rest of season - reaction

We've got some reaction to the news that Stoke City's Bojan Krkic will miss the remainder of the season with a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Manager Mark Hughes said: "It's bitterly disappointing for the club but even more so for Bojan himself as he was making such a big impact on the Premier League and clearly enjoying his football. We wish him a speedy recovery."

The Spanish forward had scored the opening goal in the 4-1 FA Cup win Rochdale on Monday but limped off just after the half hour.

The FA is set to give Prince Ali of Jordan one of the five nominations he needs to stand as a candidate in the Fifa presidential election.

BBC Sport understands a proposal to back the 39-year-old will be put to the FA board for ratification when they meet on Thursday.

Sources say the decision does not necessarily mean that the FA will vote for Ali in May's poll. The decision is believed to have been made in the interests of promoting a healthy debate around Fifa's future.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino hints that reserve goalkeeper Michel Vorm could retain his place for tomorrow's League Cup semi-final second leg at Sheffield United, despite an error gifting Leicester a late winner in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Alan Sunderland 89th-minute goal won the trophy for the Highbury club, who had conceded twice in the final three minutes.

Blackpool move for Thistle defender

STV in Glasgow are reporting that Partick Thistle have accepted a £100,000 bid from Blackpool for defender Stephen O'Donnell. The 22-year-old right-back is out of contract in the summer and had been interesting Dundee United.

Tigers 'not near 2014 level yet'

Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell has acknowledged his side need competitive games to regain the form shown in last season's Super League.

Tigers, who were Challenge Cup runners up and finished fourth in 2014, begin the new season at home to Wakefield, having won all four of their warm-up matches.

"I don't think we're anywhere near where we were last year," Powell told BBC Radio Leeds. "That's going to take a few competitive games."

Awford to stay in charge

Portsmouth boss Andy Awford will stay in charge for the time being after his position was discussed by the board on Monday, BBC Radio Solent reports. However, it is understood that the board stopped short of guaranteeing his job is safe for the foreseeable future.

Awford's side were booed off after Saturday's 2-1 loss to Southend, their seventh defeat in 11 matches, which saw them drop to 18th in League Two, and have not won since 22 November..

South Korea's first Olympic swimming gold medallist, Park Tae-Hwan, has failed a doping test.

The test was administered before the Asian Games in September in Incheon, the Korea Swimming Federation said, with Park's management attributing the failed test to an injection for chiropractic treatment.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes was in the crowd as champions Manchester Thunder opened Netball's 2015 Superleague campaign with a 55-52 win over Surrey Storm.

Surrey finished unbeaten at the top of the table last year but the silverware went to Thunder after they scored a last-minute winner in the Grand Final.

Tracey Neville's side went in 29-21 ahead at half-time on Monday and raced 11 points clear in the third quarter.

Surrey pulled back the deficit to five going into the last 15 minutes but were unable to catch the hosts.

African countries will back Blatter

African countries will vote overwhelmingly for Sepp Blatter in this year's Fifa elections, senior officials have told Reuters.

"Africa is solidly behind Blatter. You will find he is very popular on the continent," said Kwesi Nyantakyi, the president of the Ghana Football Association and a Confederation of African Football executive committee member.

Former South African Football Association president Molefi Oliphant, who still serves on the CAF executive said of Blatter: "The continent is united behind him."

Fifa looks into Real transfers

Fifa is investigating Real Madrid's youth transfer policy and has asked the club for information on 51 players.

Club director Emilio Butragueno confirmed Fifa had asked the Spanish Federation for documents relating to transfers over the last five years. Butragueno said the club was "absolutely calm" about its behaviour.

The Super Bowl finalists are under investigation after being found to have used under-inflated balls in their 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Kraft believes "unconditionally" that the Patriots have "done nothing inappropriate" or violated NFL rules. He also wants the NFL to apologise if his side, who face the Seattle Seahawks in Sunday's Super Bowl, are cleared.

On 5 live today from 12:30 GMT there will be a discussion about the many young footballers who are released by clubs every year after failing to get a professional contract.

There will be an interview with Michael Kinsella, a promising goalkeeper who played in the Liverpool youth team with Jamie Carragher but was released and ended up in jail for drug offences.

The Premier League told 5 live Daily that 76% of scholars aged 16-19 get a pro contract after finishing their apprenticeship, 10% go into further education, 5% get jobs, 2% are foreign players and return home, 7% try and get a contract with another club.

Scotland will be without David Denton and Sean Maitland for the start of the Six Nations after the pair suffered injuries last weekend.

Nightmare for Sohail

Pakistan all-rounder Haris Sohail was left "visibly shaken" when he saw what he believed was a ghost haunting him in his hotel room on the tour of New Zealand. Sohail, 26, was convinced a "supernatural" presence was haunting him in Christchurch when he awoke at the weekend to find his bed moving, team manager Naveed Akram Cheema said.

He spent the rest of the night in the coach's room before being moved to another room at the Rydges Latimer hotel, which has been rebuilt since the 2011 earthquake that devastated Christchurch and claimed 185 lives. Sohail was reportedly unable to train for two days after the incident and scored only six against a New Zealand President's XI on Tuesday.

Notts in no rush over Carroll deal

Manager Shaun Derry says Notts County will not discuss a new deal with Roy Carroll until they know what division they will be playing in next season.

The 37-year-old joined the Magpies last summer and has been described by Derry as the best goalkeeper in League One, in which Notts currently sit 10th, but the Northern Ireland international is out of contract in the summer.

"Not many clubs talk to players until you know where you are going to be," Derry told BBC Radio Nottingham.

Transfer system talks break down

Talks aimed at reforming football's transfer system have broken down after European clubs and leagues refused to accept proposals to protect unpaid players, the players union FIFPro have said.

The negotiations, which opened last March, have come to a standstill and FIFPro has called an extraordinary meeting of its Europe division in Athens on Wednesday to discuss the issue.
